Well, he does have to recover the cost of the Prius. It would make sense to make hay while the sun shines and then drop the prices if new Prius competition comes in later.

The Prius v would definitely help in the cargo department (then you won't have to send the vans since the Prius v kinda is a "van"). It also has increased rear legroom that passengers will enjoy. It is a bit slower (1.5 secs).

Thanks for the blog! hopefully it encourages other taxi drivers and taxi company owners to consider a hybrid for their next vehicle.

Well said :) get that hay :)

Portland's taxis are mainly Ford Crown Victorias. If you drive like a maniac you will only get 12mpg with a lot of city driving. It's sad really, but hopefully that will change :) I used to get 18-20 mpg with careful ecodriving.

Why in the world would anyone be opposed to a hybrid for political reasons? They want to use as much fuel as possible? Are they nuts?

Yes they are. Insanity is part of daily lives for many. I remember hanity from fox news talking how driving a hybrid is anti american. He loves his big escalade and feels like a real american.

You will see so many people complain about high gas prices but they drive a V8 suv. They hate prius because its an hybrid and uses less gas. Ohh lets not forget about some cabi guys who will not drive a prius even though it effect there bottomline. Cabis are not rich people. They make a hard living. Saving few hundred bucks a month can be a huge benefit. Lot of cabis get this but some are still snobbing away from a prius. Think about saving more than $50k during the life of the car. This money can be used for retirement funds, Kids college tution, house payments, etc. But no they still hate prius. Do not even want to test drive it.

Insanity is the only real expanation for this kinda behaviour.

That's why I put "political" in quotes ;) Yes, they are all nuts, but unfortunately they think that we are the odd balls.

Hannity's Escalade is a hybrid, but not great for MPG (21 city/22 Highway) since it is still big and heavy.
