I'm a Prius addict - going to rent Prius again - we'll see how fuel economy goes

    Have you tried out the JBL system? Get a good CD and compare the Accord's and Prius system if you can.

    Have you checked into the resale value of your Accord Coupe? There are a few Prius V for sale on ebay: 2010 Toyota Prius | eBay

    Ouch! High 20's. I'm good for a few years. Coupe wouldn't fetch 20. No can do 10k outa pocket.

    I was playing the JBL up to 40, 2 up on bass, everything else centered ... good CD. It's a good bang for the thousand bucks. Stays clear at higher volumes. Sound field more in the front, no fade.

    Accord EX system quite good - it's a '270 W premium'. Sound field more from the rear, no fade ( 3 speakers on rear deck). Pretty strong and clear ... has to be to overcome the road noise* :D

    * Road noise not that bad .... Prius has some too :p

    Yeah, this gives a more accurate picture.

    I find from owning this car for a few months that gassing up and resetting the trip odometer gives inflated numbers the first couple of gallons. I always see 50+ mpg after a reset and fill up but by the time I need to go to the gas station, it's down to like the mid 40's.

    My lifetime is 57.1 via computer - 54.06 via hand calc. Just over 11k miles beginning Jan. 16.

    Except that my fillup also confirmed high 50's MPGs.

    The big things that will bring lower FE numbers to Prius are - short trips. In the first 5 to 10 minutes of driving, it's not even warmed up yet. No car gets its best FE when not warmed up. If I did 12 minutes to work, it would probably be showing about 45 MPG too.

    Lots of heater use will bring FE down, A/C will bring it down a little, not much IIRC.

    By lifetime, I mean the average consumption since mile 0. I think the Prius does update this total as one increments in mileage. If I am incorrect, I may be looking at the other Trip total for B, which I haven't reset in thousands of miles. To be more accurate, the display reads 47 in actuality.

    And yes, I do make lots of short trips (3-6 miles)...and maybe two 20-mile trips a week (in one day) along with said shorter ones in between during the remainder of the week. I've switched to bicycle for the most part so that these trips are minimized. I need an electric car or the PHEV add-on for this one (and a new domicile where I can connect it!).

    Here is what my Prius did with mix driving (city & highway)...no special method...just drive, maybe a little bit on conservative side...not bad for a V/Five:

    just a question...

    your mpgs on highway seem awfully high. what speed are you sticking at? are you using cruise control at all? what mode are you in(eco/pwr)?

    I do a lot of highway driving and I would never get 60+ on highway...

    When I hit 880 South, it was reading about 50 MPG. I set cruise for 64 MPH for maybe 20 miles, kept between 60 and 65 otherwise. Fairly flat highway, but some elevation changes. Was in normal mode (I don't like pedal response in eco mode, power mode a bit strong. I'd like something in between normal and power).

    I didn't get to compare with a great CD - was playing tribute to Weather Report CD which is alright quality but not great. There's a couple of Celine Dion tracks that go off really well in the Coupe.

    I don't think JBL can match the Coupe system because it has a 6" subwoofer on rear deck with a pretty thick magnet (1" or so). probably can't fit that kind of magnet in doors. No harm, JBL's aight.

    JBL uses neodymium magnets on all their speakers, which are much smaller, just as powerful, but even more efficient than the old ferrous magnets. Actually, next time that you're at a Lexus dealership, check out how small those Mark Levinson subwoofer magnets! The use of neodymium magnets allow for better packaging while maintaining the same power and efficiency (if not better!)...and for subwoofer placement in the rear deck, the neo magnets allow for better cargo packaging.

    My wife's TSX has the same system as your Coupe...and although a good system, the music sounds "separated" because of the vast distance b/w the tweeter and the lower door woofer and biased toward the speakers that you're sitting closest to. Basically, all music is around belly-chest height...and you can hear only the high frequency at ear level. You can definitely hear where the music is coming from...from the left side door if you're in the driver's seat.

    I think that this is where a good center channel makes the system better along with better crossovers for the tweeter-midrange speakers...for better staging and imaging. Unfortunately, to get this CC in the TSX, you have to get the ELS audio system.

    BTW, i believe that your subwoofer is 7.9", not 6".

    Back to topic, like you, i just use NORMAL mode while driving. I used the ECO mode early on to train my right foot on how to better use the Prius hybrid system. Once my foot got used to the gas pedal, i am now only in NORMAL mode.

    In the Coupe, much better for sure. Seat is defintely firmer than 3rd gen Prius one - sitting on it in the rental, it's like a lounge chair, very cushy.

    I don't have a lotta junk in the trunk so I think that's why i don't usually need much lumbar support.

    The Coupe cloth seat has quite a bit of lumbar support built in fixed position. I wouldn't want any more.

    I may switch to a Prius again, but it will be at least two years from now.

    Honda seats are amazing IMO. My wife's TSX seats are just fabulous!! (But, they are thick seat though.) The TSX seats are the best seats that i have ever sat in...they are better than my old BMW M3 optional sports seats with a million adjustments!!

    Honda just knows how to make car seats...Toyota is very much behind Honda in this regard.

    For me, i like lumbar support in flat seats like those in the Prius...esp. on long trips.
