So if I get the PHV plug -in the next year or two.. will that make my southern buddies hate it even more????
I'm not going to ask your political views, you already hint at them in your post. The important thing is your desire to learn. I admire that. The "Prius Haters" are not interested in learning or adapting. Good for you!
I always think it's funny when I hear some say something like "I'd never own a hybrid or an electric car". And I can tell you I've heard that said more than once. Man I'd love it if there was some way we could really hold them to that in 20 years time when petrol's $40 per gallon. Never say never, as they say..
My uncle is a Prius hater. He says the battery will not last more than a few years He owns a Chrysler & GM dealership so there is no way to tell him anything about what he calls Jap cars Some people are complete idiots when they talk out their rear end about stuff they have no idea about  I have always wondered what a Prius really was until the Gen III came out and the damn cool styling caught my eye. A bit of research & driving rental Prii sold me on the car, now I am gettin one next year :thumb: Mike
On insightcentral.net, they like to refer to Prius as a 'giant golf cart' or 'moon mobile'. Egg and jelly bean are common references to it. I don't think any car can match the fuel economy, and interior space of Prius. As gas prices go higher, people will have choices - pay more, drive less, or wise up.
Chrysler and Dodge are fairly lame. Terrible reliability ratings. I've looked at them in CR, but never come close to a Chrysler dealership. why bother. I've actually gone to a GM dealership which is lucky to be on Fremont Auto row, although their lot space is about 1/5 the size of Toyota. In GM showroom they have Camaro and Vette, Suburban, Acadia and Equinox. They keep a Chevy Cruize in there. I see the 1.4L engine in Cruize and wonder why would I want Cruize with 1.4L and gets 24 city / 34 hwy when I can go next door to Honda and get a Civic with 1.8L and gets 28 city / 39 hwy? Fremont Auto row is Chevrolet, Honda, MB, Hyundai, Porsche, BMW, Acura, Lexus, Nissan, Volvo, and Toyota (which is twice as big as any other dealer area). I don't even know where Chrysler is.
This is off topic, but last year I saw 2 motorcyclists weaving in and out of traffic like complete asses on 101 N of San Mateo. Traffic flowing at 65. I mean complete jerks. Past the SF airport, I saw one of the same riders pass me 2 lanes over on right on a Ducati Monster - he went into a tank slapper, this is where handlebars go full left to right, rapidly, complete instability .... Ever seen a guy sliding on the freeway, feet first past you? I have. Sliding on his back. I know that jacket was riding up too. First the bike slid past, then he slid past. The weirdest thing I've ever seen. Kinda freaky, especially when you've ridden for 12 years. Motorcycles are nothing to play around with, that's for sure.
I watched him in rear view mirror ... after 1/4 mile slide, he was up on his feet quickly, then running. He didn't get run over which is good.
I remember guys dropping on the track and when they finally came to a stop, they couldn't get their gloves off fast enough. You know those metal beads on the palms as wear beads, smokin hot I went off a corner once running only 70 something and rode her out as I mowed down little trees  Fun times back then. A buddy of mine had a run in on the street with a Corolla in '92, the Corolla won I sold my bike soon after that accident; sad. Mike
I don't think some people hate Prius because it's a Toyota, or hybrid. For some, it's the look of the car. There's phychology behind what some people think is an attractive car or not. For the most part, I like cars that look sleek. Others like vehicles like a Land Rover or Lincoln Navigator. See the movies how they always show the govt. big wigs pull up in a band of black SUV's. You know certain people go oooooooh, I want to be important like that. So the aspire to buy a black GMC Denali. Some people are likely afriad of the stubby front end on the Prius. They're convinced they'll be smushed in a head on collisiton. They can drive a Camry hybrid instead.
The Camry Hybrid is a very nice car, but it needs a redesign to put the batteries down low like the Prius has. I can't imagine how people enjoy driving a tank around that takes $150.00 to fill the darn gas tank. I absolutely hate driving my Vue as much as it is a damn nice SUV. It freakin sucks gas down in city driving My wife used to be a Prius hater until I rented a 3rd Gen and had her drive it. Now she is goofy in love with the Prius Now that is her first choice when we rent a car. Silly her. Mike
kind of humorous, i was talking to my mom on the phone last night and mentioned the drive i took the prius on and how i was impressed that i was still on the same tank of gas (after 300 miles of mountain driving and 120miles of "around town" driving, and i don't drive slow/easy)...and she ignored all that and said "a prius!??! isn't that one of those tiny little electric pieces of crap?"..... :-| i was going to explain it but, decided she wasn't worth taking the effort. so i just said Sure.
No, no, no. You can't allow that kind of crap to continue. You don't have to go deep, just "no, it's a mid-size hybrid".
Anyone caught the trailer to the upcoming summer comedy.. "Killing the Boss" or something like that? A guy is caught running a red light.. when questioned he said he was drag racing.. the cop says.. "In a Prius?" The guy replies.. "I don't win a lot"...
I say screw those haters. Choose your race wisely and show those losers what those electrons can do Mike
