Headlight projector retrofit - HIDs to the max!

Sure, that will simplify things.

Looking at the size of the Mini Gatling shroud, it may fit inside without trimming. I really hope so!

 

There's never anyone here for packages. I always get stuck going to the USPS (there's only ever 1 person working and 10 people in line) or to the local UPS or FedEx if they require a signature. Then again, FedEx is great at leaving my packages at someone else's house. It's happened 3 times in the 5 years I've lived here. Someone once printed a Google map of my address and stuck it on the box for them to re-deliver. I laughed a bit at that! Luckily, they always managed to get every package and put it at my front door.

 

So to replace the HIDs in a 2006+ Gen II model, which projector type do you recommend?

I have installed the projector and found the location (see last pic) I want to install the LED array. I have not put back the cover back on. I tucked both of them away in the closet so dust cannot get on (hopefully).

It is a very clean install. I snaked out the high beam wire through the H4 bulb clip hole.

I have a bunch of pictures. I will post more tomorrow.

 

I have not power it up yet. Thanks for the tip! It would have been a major screw up!

 

Did you use the gatling shroud for those H1 minis?

 

Yes, the pictures I posted are with the mini gatling shroud installed. It is small enough to fit inside the reflector without any cutting. It makes the install easy and best of all it comes with the projector.

I used the H4 adapter plate (came with it) so I won't need to align or rotate the projector. Hopefully it is as super easy as it sounds. Let's see after I install the HID H1 bulb and light it up!

 

A huge thank to F8L for walking me through this yesterday. I got more time to take these nice pictures.

Remove the screws highlighted in Red. See below.


Leave the ones highlighted in Green.


Headlight in the Oven. 265 deg F preheat and 7 minutes baked.

Remove the halogen H4 bulb cover. The bolt is in the back.

Mini H1 projector - Prepare it to look like this with the silicone rubber installed. Remove the H1 holder and the projector locking ring first.


Remove the high beam wires from the connector. Use a paper clip to push the two sides and it will slide through.


Snake the wires through the hole highlighted. You can see the rear of the Mini H1 projector.


Put the H4 adapter plate (comes with the projector) and screw the projector lock ring tight.


Silicone rubber sandwiched between the projector and the reflector.

 

She freaked out when I put the headlight in the oven. She stood there and gave me the "Wth" stare while I was on the phone with you. I had to calm her down. She was ok after 15 mins or so.

To put the headlight back together, my oven is not big enough to fit both halfs. How did you do it?

 

Made more progress today but there is a set back. One of the LED array is defective. This means I will not be able to complete the install this weekend since the replacement may not arrive.

I am also unsure if the LED array and the wire may not survive 265 deg F in the oven when I close it back. I'll have to call TRS tomorrow.
