I'm trying to give my prius a unique interior look and i decided to swap out the dome lights, step lights, courtesy lights, and truck light with Custom LED ones.

I found many sites carrying LED universal kits and found them to be either too weak or having predatory prices. That's when i stumbled upon Super Bright LEDs Their prices are quite amazing. Period.

This website was a dream come true. I'm about to order 7 custom LED lights from them. I decided to use blue for every single Light besides the courtesy lights which will be Pure White. You can't really go wrong because they give you all the measurements of the lights. The only restricting light is the dome light where you have to watch out to keep it under .8 inches for insurance.

Want to know how much power they put out? well they give you the lumens as well.

I decided to go with These for my dome lights
WLED-x6 (194 type) Wedge Base bulbs Specifications

Luckily, with the small space for the dome lights the bulbs face directly downward meaning 30-60 degree lights can be used no problem.

For the door lights and trunk lights and courtesy lights these will be utilized.
High Power SMD WLED-xHP9-T (194 type) 360 degree Wedge Base bulbs Specifications

I figured the 360 angle LED's were best for these applications because the bulbs lay down to the side. A 30 degree light that faces into the side of the door is quite pointless.

Before you bash me for using Blue lights for dome, I realized that when i'm driving and i need the dome light and i turn it on it blinds me to death so the blue should be more subtle to my eyes. I just carried the theme through to the door lights and trunk lights.

I'm going to order these real soon, i'll let you guys know about the final fit and how bright they are behind the plastic covers. Pics of course will be uploaded.

There have been a few threads on this.

These originate in China - but US sites deliver them quicker...

A few basic Ebay searches will yield some even brighter (more SMT LEDs) lights. I think blue in the doors looks nice (that's just me). I went with 9LED lights - though there are higher density ones available...

Stick with the SMT type (flat LED) - the 'traditional' LEDs are not as bright...

I'm using superbrightleds in mine. The festoon 4-bulb ones are a tight fit in the cargo area and dome light. Their 168/194 bulbs (5) work fine for me.. except for the first two that blew out prematurely (about 4-5 months life IIRC).

If you are referring to what I call the map lights, here is a post in which I describe and show with pictures how I found it easy to remove the lenses. (I also show above that post how to do the door lights)

Take a flathead screwdriver and find the divit on the edge of the lens. Pry it open gently there and then slide the screwdriver to the otherside to completely pop it off. From there, grab the bulb and pull hard. You shouldn't need to twist or anything. The bulb pulls right out.

I just replaced all the interiors of my 2009 Gen II with this: 15pcs White SMD Map Dome Door LED Lights Interior Package Kit for Toyota Prius | eBay - from eBay. $5.99 (inc shipping) is brilliant, and it took me all of 20 mins to do the job (there are some useful tips on youtube) - I still need to do the marker lamps plus number-plate lamps (the original reason for go to LEDs - one of the number-plate lamps is out) - the last time a marker was bad, the dealer charged me $11 just to replace one!

Update: I just did the vanity lights, and the front and rear markers - about 15 min job all-told. Then I did the number-plate lamps, and after a short struggle with the trim on the hatch (…mine is 2009 Gen II) so the trim is a one-piece large panel with several retaining clips which have to be popped (…by brute force), whereas the later ones have two small access-panels. Anyway, as I was replacing the final lamp, I broke the lamp-holder whilst removing it - well, it was stuck, and one of the locating lugs broke off! Well, I looked on line, and found the piece (part # 9007599011) on eBay (just over $8, inc. shipping) so until the new part arrives, the lamp-holder is just holding on by its good reputation! ;) - but at least I know the trick for the rear trim-panel!
