What kind/color fob comes with a '11 Five-AT?

RES is factory and/or dealer installed option. Factory retail is $529. To my knowledge the FOB is black. I'm not aware of a gray FOB. Maybe the dealer had the FOB covered to protect it?

Without more information, I think everything is okay between you and dealer, but call the salesperson and tell him what you're thinking.

I have a 2010 and my FOB is black. I had the OEM remote start installed and to start the Engine I have to:

"Quickly Press (lock) TWICE" THEN "Press & HOLD (lock) 3 seconds"

I bet they are all black. The dealer must have had a demo FOB.

It is not part of the VIP alarm system. You have to add that separate.

The OEM Toyota remote start is a worthless product. It only works from 30 feet. It does not give any feedback that the car is running. It only runs the car for 10 minutes. You can start the car one more time after 10 minutes for another 10 minutes and then it will not let you remote start again.

If you are interested in a true remote start solution I would recommend the Viper System. With the Viper system you can start the car with a keyfob from 1 mile away with feedback or use an app for your phone to start the car from anywhere in the world. The car can run for 60 minutes at a time.

DEI pretty much wrote the book on auto security. Whatever they don't have, they'll go out and buy it. There are however some features that on paper seemed nice but in reality is not practical. Starting a car from a mile away is nice but how often are you going to start a car from a mile away? Using an app on your phone to control the alarm from anywhere in the world sound cool but in order for it to work, you gotta have some type of internet connection on the alarm brain. The 60 minute run time is just plain waste of gas. It doesn't take longer than 10 minutes to warm up the car. If you any errands that needs more than 10 minutes away from your car you should shut off the engine. The 60 minute run time is only ideal if you plan to leave your pets in the vehicle all the time, every single day. 9 years go when I build a custom computer in my Tacoma, I had a Clifford AdventGuard 4 with CliffNet. I played with the "start your car from anywhere in the world", using a laptop to control the vehicle cause back then there was no smartphones let alone apps, remote starting from half a mile away, sure it's not a mile away but it's far away where you can barely see it. All that were fun to play with and show off to people but I never use it in normal daily life and I never remote started farther than 200 feet away. I did have one technology that still no one has duplicated, touch screen starting, window control, locks and lights control and best of all, all can be voice activated. Back to the subject, the aftermarket remote starts now a days are more feature packed than the OEM. Some aftermarket remote starts such as the Clifford's Intellistart 4 also adds retained accessory so you can continue listen to your music after you shut down the car. 1 draw back of aftermarket remote start is the extra remote you have to carry. Personally I think the Prius doesn't need remote start.

 

I both of mine are black, I do not have remote engine start. I would not worry about the fob's if they work.

 

The sticker on the fob has no relation to any of the buttons on the fob. It's just there to let you know that you have Remote Start installed. I took my stickers off.

Just follow the instructions on the white tag.

I disagree with most of what you posted.

The Toyota OEM remote start is rated at about 40 feet. If you are going through a wall it is about 20 feet. If you are on a 3 story building 30 feet up in the air you will never be able to start your car.

The Viper system is rated up to 1 mile away. If you are going through many walls at work or a shopping center this will cut down on the range. The key advantage is that with the long range you have a lot better chance of starting your car. It also give feedback to notify you your car is started. The Toyota OEM unit does not.

This is not true at all. You do not have to worry about having any type of internet connection. You do not need to worry on how it is done, it just works.

It sounds like you are making a general statement. Are you saying that if it is 25 deg F it takes the same amount of time as if it is -10 def F? The answer is no, it does not take the same amount of time. In Cleveland it takes a lot longer to warm up the car then the 10 minutes the OEM gives you.

This is not 9 years ago. Now we do have very small smart phones that make all this very practical.

A lot has changed in the last 9 years. All high end car alarm systems support all those features.
