Air Flow Meter Malfunction after service

    I just had my 2007 Prius serviced. After the service, my car broke down within 10km of the shop. The shop determined that the air flow meter had malfunctioned and wants to charge me about $500 to replace the part. Could the air flow meter have been damaged when the vehicle was being serviced? Specifically, when the air filter was removed and inspected during the servicing. It seems plausible that shop did something to cause the problem. Any thoughts?

    I damaged the maf on an MR2 I owned once. I changed the air filter myself and inadvertantly damaged the maf in the process. Not sure if the maf is in the same place on the Prius but the MR2 was also a Toyota so who knows?

    Changing the air filter on a Gen 11 would/should not interfere with the MAF Sensor unless something was dropped down where the sensor sits,I had a problem recently and one of the things i did was to clean the MAF with the proper cleaner[CRC MAF Sensor Cleaner]
    Maybe give that a go first,if it does need a new sensor,get it yourself and fit it,it's an easy fix if you're anyway DIY inclined.

    Yes they could have damaged it but if they did they will probably never admit it was their fault. Could also be a coincidence and it picked that time to fail.

    Do a Google search for "2007 Prius maf" the first thing that comes up will direct you to 4 maf sensor topics on this site.

    As previously mentioned you may be able to get by with cleaning it if it's not damaged. It would be nice it you could get a second opinion.
