And it is surprising how much you like the leather steering wheel. You don't want to go back to plastic after you're used to it. In fact, all the "extras" I got on the Prius iv are things I would not do without now.

I'm enjoying the plastic steering wheel and cloth seats. I traded in a loaded suv with every gadget added. I'm fine with the quality and like the simplicity. I'm not certain I'm gonna switch to leather seats as originally planned. Suppose I replied b/c of your leather steering wheel. Leather is more slippery and the material on the III is rougher. To each their own, enjoy yours. :)

You can always get the "Wheelskin", which I did and totally enjoy it. I've always had cars with leather steering wheels also....and the "Wheelskin" is a definite choice for my Prius.

Definitely don't think you are settling....as a matter of fact I chose the III over the IV and just had the leather seats installed in the car. Love it...the color I purchased was the Dark Winter Grey with the Dark Grey interior....very streamlined with the tinted windows...

I agree...I *hate* plastic steering wheels. Even worse as the car gets older and they get worn and slippery. Look & feel terrible...

Did you match the leather aftermarket seats with the plastic color of the seat bottom? What brand/color did you use?

xs650 I got a level III with leather! where are the gel pads? from my observations the factory leather is much better than the 3rd party I got! also lost the heating function and is all wrinkled already!:( let me know!

I ordered mine with gel pads. I don't know about adding them later. Seat heaters were also an option when I ordered mine but I opted to not get them.

If it's all wrinkled it's probably a poor installation.

Hi the sits were good when new after 4 months got wrinkled bad! the reason is the type of leather and the straight flat surface. I read from other people having the same problem! I guess is all good..... Strange in the dealer they told me they didn't have the heater parts for installation Thanks!.

I bought a 2010 III in January, 2011 when you could still get some "deals" out there. Paid only $22,300. I didn't get leather or electic seats but those are the only things I miss. I bought Wet Okole neoprene seat covers for about $700 and they are great. Still saved a bunch over buying the leather package. Different areas of the country have different regional distributors. Some will add leather only some won't. Often you have to buy the entire "package". I think the Southeast Toyota distributor will still add the leather by itself. I went to Maryland to get my car (for the deal) and I could not get leather only (especially on this kind of deal). I am very pleased with the car. Only wish I had gotten rid of our Sienna at the same time and bought two Prius'.

Used Katzkin Leather seats and they match all the way. The installer did the job so well you would think the leather was original to the car. You can have the dealer make arrangements to do this with one of their vendors if you would like but the doors got covered where there was fabric the center console the seats front and back...like I said....only I know the car is a III.

Someone sold you a bill of goods in Maryland because that is where I purchased my car from....paid about the same price that you did and they did the leather seats for me. Came with a warranty on the seats from Katzkin and looks just like a IV or V Prius just without the extra cost. Sometimes you have to be a little insistent....

I bought a III last August and love it. I covered the steering wheel with a stitched leather cover and put on Clazzio leather seats and it looks and feels like factory. I have a Garmin Gps that cost me $85 and I dont really care about a backup camera in a car so small and a good rear view. The only thing i miss is the sunroof but the additional $$ was not worth it to me. Either way you cant go wrong with this car

We really wanted a Red IV but given the supply situation and the circumstances in Japan right now, we purchased a Blue IV with all the options we were looking for.

When one is spending THIS much $$$, there really is not a good reason to settle, IMHO. :)

The big difference for us is that little hole in the roof (moon roof). The V does not come with one and the IV can (option I believe). That is why we have a Blue IV and not a Red III.

BTW, this is my first post here and we have had our baby (Halley is her name) since last Thursday.

    Hi everyone!

Congrats. In the Southeast you can get the solar roof option on a III as well as navigation and leather seats. I didn't settle, but I did save a bunch of money. If you're out there wondering how you'll survive in a Prius III, stop worrying - it's very nice. This is coming from a 20± year owner of only luxury cars. This car is a joy to drive. :)

Well, in that case, you need to check out how our Prius did in the revamp (aka a lot tougher!) NHTSA crash test: 2011 Toyota Prius 4 DR FWD | Safercar -- NHTSA

Congrats on the new baby...the one that is crying endlessly, not the one that you put gas in! :D
