    Hi All,
Sorr if this has been gone over before, but I couldn't find a good answer with the "Search" feature.
I have a 2010 IV that I use for my sales calls at work, and I'd like to mount my laptop in it, so I can enter information in-between sales calls.
I'd like to buy one something like they use in the Police cars etc., but there are a few to chose from, and most of the picks/details online aren't cutting it.

Does anyone have any first hand suggestions for a high quality laptop mount, that actually works without any major mods, and that won't get in the way of a possible passenger?

And before anyone tries to slam my question
    :
NO, I repeat NO, I will NOT be using it while driving!

Thank you very much for your help,
    BigBen

have you tried Ram Mounts, I use those on my truck not for a laptop but for other smaller electronic devices.

    Thanks PapaGallo,
I've been looking at those as well as the Jotto models which I think is what the Police use.

Ram Mounts are the best, pricey but the best.

    Thanks RadioZero.
Do you know how they compare to the Jotto?
It looks like Ram what appears to be a "Direct-Fit" model, whereas the Jotto has one that is more of a "Universal Mount" for the Prius.

    Thanks Again,
    BB

I have and have used a RAM Mount in my 4Runner. In the pic below the 3 legs are flexible aluminum rods that mount into a ball mount. The actual platform for the laptop was improvised by me. The platform they have was a bit too thick for my use so I just cut a thin piece of 1/4" veneer and covered it with tool box draw liner. That thin liner is very, very skid resistant and I would clamp the laptop to it. I was using an old 15" laptop in the 4Runner and was able to position it so my wife/passenger was no too crowded by it. It worked very well and was infinitely customizable.

I would not personally do this in a Prius unless it was a Winbook size device. I had space in the 4Runner but it still cramped the shift knob vertically. With the center console in the Prius, I see no good way to do this unless you don't carry a passenger in the front at the same time. Also, if you don't have a passenger you can use the non-skid liner and just set it in the passenger seat but that's not anchored in any way.

    Thanks for the information Mark.

The RAM unit for the Prius looks totally different than the unit you posted in your pics above.
I'm thinking of using this one, because the way it mounts looks like it would be less in the way of a Passenger. I use the Prius for work 99% of the time, so there's rarely a Passenger with me.
I think this one would be my best bet so far.

    Good choice.

That's not unlike the one they suggested for a 4Runner but I wanted to tweak the setup a bit. I liked the flexible aluminum tubes for the legs because I could custom fit them to that environment and give maximum space to my passenger and still use the laptop simultaneously. I used mine with offroad maps while doing 4X4ing in Colorado. I needed the mount to have maximum bracing without attaching it to the dash and the third leg on my tripod style mount provided that.

Your environment and needs will be different. The nice thing is, RAM mounts have enough part options to allow you to customize their suggestion to meet your needs if you want to. The two 360° ball mounts I have just below the laptop holder allowed me to adjust height as well as front/back/side to side position. That kept it low enough out of my view while driving (2 - 5 mph) but high enough up off the shifter and still be in between us. many of their parts work together so you can customize later after you've used it for a while.

Very nice mod you made, to adapt for your 4X4 activities.

I wonder if it is possible to mount the bracket to the BACK of one of the seats, yet still have the laptop over the passenger seat???
I think I'm going to order it, and check-out the options.
I'd like to add my Garmin to it as well.
