I have been keeping good records of everything, my costs per mile so far... I have almost 38,000 Gas 5 cents per mile. $1,900 All maint/repairs ect 1 cent per mile. $380 Car ins 6 cents per mile $2,354 Car payment 23 cents per mile $8,866 I have a bad interest rate so this could have been better!!! So i come out at $0.35 per mile. I can't remember what CR said they figuired for the per mile of operating costs, i wish i could find that issue. Any others in here with their numbers, comments, ect.
Total miles 11,700 Gas cost per mile: $0.06 Maintenance: $0.00 (first two years are free) Enjoyment of driving a Prius: Priceless Haven't tracked insurance or payments.
Your numbers certainly reinforce the fact that fixed costs (payment)are always higher. Some other fixed costs to include are license, registration, tax and title. When I managed corporate fleets, fixed/operating cents per mile were a bit lower, but as a percentage to total cost, your numbers fall right in line.
Also, the Insurance, Taxes, and Car Payment per mile costs totally depend on the number of miles you drive. If you only drive 100 miles a month, those costs are going to look pretty high. I am getting between 5 and 6 cents per mile on gas and I have free maintenance the first 2 years. Erik
You shouldn't count car payments like that (unless you are leasing). You should factor depreciation instead. First, take the out-the-door price of your vehicle. Add interest paid-to-date. This is your paid-in amount. Go to KBB and calculate the resale value of your car. Take the paid-in amount and subtract the resale value, this is your depreciation. Take depreciation and divide by miles and this is your depreciation cost per mile.
K so... 23,500 i have paid around 3,000 in interest so i have 26,500. KBB says my car has a private party value of 20k(LOL i wish, 6 months ago it was 17k) 26,500-20,000=6,500 17 cents per mile?
