Also, remember that you still have the shift position indicator in the MFD. I always glance at it when shifting.

I guess we need to ask the OP if the buttons are just simple spring loaded ones like the Park or if they are detented or have to be pushed with a decisive amount of force to actuate.

I can picture somebody's pet stepping on one of them while the Prius is in motion.....:eek:hwell:

Again, the Toyota-supplied stubby little sticky thing is old-fashioned, gets in the way of operating the GPS/AV HeadUnit, and (for me at least) is counterintuitive with its:
    – Pull Back to go Forward
    – Push Forward to go Backward.

As someone said, you really don't use it except when you're fully stopped. How many times have you put it in B?

Just imagine the consternation if we tried to get rid of the steering handle. ;)

Hey Prius916, you didn't mention that it does a cool blue light dance when you turn it on, too. For everyone interested, the best place to buy is www.apr.com, I first tried the Yahoo Japan Auction, which is great, but you need to join Japamart to bid for you and take a big cut. There is still the language barrier,
As for the button location, it doesn't really matter, because you have to look at them to push anyway, and we really only use R and D, don't we? They do light up on the display as normal, no wiring changes needed. My dad's Desoto had push buttons and they weren't in the correct order either, up on the left side of the dash!

Maybe I have driven the Prius too long, but don't ALL car shifters go forward to Reverse and then Back to Drive, 3,2,L?

Too much time at the helm? Throttle forward, full steam ahead; throttle back, past neutral, she goes astern.

Likewise, for those of us brought up on VW Beetles... over to left, press down, and pull back for reverse.

    These shifters are getting ridiculous.

Next thing you know, someone will commission Apple to design a shifter. Just slide to the left to go into reverse. Double tap to go into B mode. Pinch to go into neutral. Flick to go into drive.

Suppose someone crashes and spins you into oncoming traffic and you need to reverse to get the heck out of the way, which can you do much faster and without looking? A shifter or push buttons?

Likewise, it's much easier to shift into reverse or drive without looking with a shifter than push buttons.

C'mon 32K... you're thinking too deep into this. There's less chance of this scenario than of shifting it into B...

Where have I heard that before? Cool light dance? For only $200? Sign me up!

P.S. There are mountains here. I use B.

Push buttons. Without question. Especially given the design which places your hand correctly.

Hey, Sorry, I listed the wrong web address to get these switches...It is www.apr-jp.com. Easiest to do the "contact us" button, and send an e-mail asking about it, give them your location, and they will send you an invoice to pay via PayPal.

I sent them an e-mail asking cost of shifter + shipping to USA.

While I don't have one of these, I think it might be pretty easy to swap buttons then move the pins on the connector.

Then you could swap D and R if you wanted.

BTW, I'm not sure if I want this.....I'd have to see it in person.

The button arrangement pattern is pretty similar to a 1956 Chrysler. If it was good enough for Virgil Exner, it's good enough for me.
