Coolant heat storage tank malfunction

Go to Toyota.com and navigate to the owners section, plug in your vin number and see if you are on the recall list, I did I am and I have an 06', then call your dealer and see what he says, it's a recall that Toyota will honor even if your dealer won't.
BTW if your dealer won't go to another.

I don't think that pump is the same one. The LSC above seems to be about the inverter coolant pump, not the one for the thermos aka coolant heat storage tank. When the CHS pump works, should be able to hear it at power up and after power down (not the rattlesnake-like sound that's from the brake (accumulator?) pump).

I had my CHS pump replaced under TSB long ago because it was making noises at power down as if a bearing were going bad. I just noticed that the above TSB for squealing is covered by the 5 year/60K mile warranty. If the OP's car is <5 years old, I'd imagine they should cover a failed pump (if that's the problem) for that length. If not, maybe he can call Toyota corporate (or get the dealer to do so) to replace it under goodwill.

 

I had the engine light come on and the error code stated P1151. I searched this on the web and it can be caused from 1 of 2 things. First the coolant storage tank is bad. Second air can get into the line and cause this error code. I just recently had taken the car in for a recall on the water pump, both pumps were changed then a week later this error code happens.
Has anyone ever had air in the line that caused an error like this? I'm hoping this is the case since the dealer just did some work on the car, maybe they didn't get all the air out of the lines?
Anyone have some input?

That is a reasonable possibility.

wondering if they hooked up the hoses backwards(just the thought) Take a look the hoses and see both hoses have same id if so maybe change them and see. You got nothing to loose.

 

So, a dealer did work on your car and a week later you get a the malfunction indicator lamp? This unfortunately happens a lot with the Prius, as many systems are unique, particularly the engine cooling loop. Take it back to your dealer and demand that they fix whatever the problem is for free. Most likely they did not properly bleed the engine cooling loop. A lesser possibility is that they burned up the pump on the CHRS by running it too much while trying to fill the system. But it is definitely something that they did, and if the service advisor tries to blow you off, go immediately to the service manager.

 

Apparently it's not a slam dunk. It took my dealer two tries to bleed and fill it properly.

 

I agree that the engine coolant drain and fill isn't easy (especially if you don't have special tools related to that purpose.) Since the Toyota dealer service depts have the necessary tools and diagnostic laptop, the only other needed element is a tech who knows what to do and actually cares about doing a good job.

 

Its been 8 days since I took my car in because of the engine light with code P1511. I asked them to bleed the lines which they did for free. The light hasn't come on since. They agreed it was probably air in the line. Lucky for me!
