Last time I checked in my upper division ECOLOGY class (2008) at Berkeley, my professors and their colleagues, and their colleagues, and their colleagues, had the hard data and research to prove the existence of global warming. So Rev, show me some articles, data, and references and I'm not talking about from some Republican bloggers. Don't believe what you read on the internet.

 

I never said they were equal cars. If a Civic LX or Corolla LE sells for $16k compare to a Prius II or III at $24k/$25k with no discount, is it not about $9k difference?

CVTs do fail, have you look inside the Gen II forum?

So yeah, why you are at it, why not tell people to foolishly line up and pay sticker price and tax for the Prius now when there are decent, cost effective, viable options available.

 

Read something other than the huffington post and you'll see that I'm right .... it's why you don't hear anything about it anymore ... it's totally discredited science.

Personal attacks don't exactly help you make your point ... but I understand that's the only way you're capable of attempting to convince people of the validity of your arguments.

Again ... you're comparing base level Corollas and Civics at discounted prices vs mid level Prii at MSRP.

There's about a $4k difference between a comparable Corolla and a II Prius ... given equal discounts ... that's STILL $4K.

Prius = $23,810, Corolla LE = $18,630 + DPI,Civic LX = $19,305 + DPI

Please document where you can buy the Corolla and Civic at $16K.

And yeah, if you were to add taxes, dmv, etc., roughly 10% to the price of each car's selling price, the difference is almost $10k, not $9k.

 

If you add the 'additional costs' to both of those cars (from your links) ... it comes to (roughly) 17.3 for the Corolla and 17.7 for the Civic .... a low price isn't low until you add up the 'additional costs' .... whatever they are.

Prius II at $22K (discounted) - $17.7K (Civic) = $4.3K

Where you're seeing 9 or 10K I have no idea.

I haven't made up a scenario. I've tried to explain to you in fairly simple terms that a Prius WILL save money depending on how many miles the driver drives during the time they own the car. I also pointed out that there are examples where it will NOT save you money. It all depends on how many miles you drive and the price of gas. As a matter of fact, forget about the price of gas and assume it stays right where it is for the next 10 years - if you drive enough miles in your Prius, you will save money over buying a Civic.

I haven't agreed with you and I believe everyone here can see your difficulty in grasping the logic I'm trying to present.

I'd also appreciate if you stop with the name calling. I haven't said anything about global warming and it reflects quite poorly on your alma mater.

 

We also almost didn't get a Prius because of the "green crowd" reputation. Man made global warming is a farce. The sun's output has increased, that's why all the planets in our solar system are also warming. Wake up!

On topic, you can still buy a Prius from multiple dealers in central Kalifornia for $100 over invoice. No shortage here.

 

If you read the website correctly, the $16k pricing includes the fees on the side. All you need to do is tack on about a extra 10% for tax, dmv, etc., in California.

Anyway, GOOD LUCK now trying to find a $2k discount in many areas of the US for a new 2011 Prius.

If you tack 10% on to a Prius II or III msrp price, which in many area now is the selling price, that makes it $26.4 for the II or $27500 for the III. If you subtract these two prices from the OTD price of the corolla or civic, how is it not $9k or so?

You know we can measure solar insolation right. Could you please create a thread in the environmental forum and describe your hypothesis and show us the difference in measured irradiance and solar insolation over the last four decades or so? Cite sources too. Thanks.

Yup... I just bought my first car ever... my lovely Prius. The first dealership I went to added silly packages like stain-proofing and such and offered it to me well above sticker price. I shook his hand and left. I drove ten minutes away and got my Prius at dealer invoice price at a different dealership serves them right for wanting to be greedy

I would also like to add that thousands of years ago the Cave Men had very huge campfires.Thats right,Man with those big campfires caused the glaciers to recede.Nature could not have caused anything of this magnitude.It had to be caused by man. :focus:
I have a Prius for good MPGs and a very reliable car and to hopefully cut our dependence on middle east oil.We need to do some drilling in our own country and put our people back to work.
