Figured I'd hop on and do the obligatory new owner first post. I'm officially the proud owner of a new 2011 Winter Grey Prius III (or is it 'Three'? I'm not sure what the preferred numerical script is for the different generations) with solar and nav. I traded in a 2006 F250 Super Duty Crew Cab (13mpg) and what had become my fun daily driver, a 2007 Pontiac Solstice (28mpg). My main reason for going with the Prius was simply miles per gallon. Living on the eastern shore of Maryland and working in Baltimore means a 250+ mile daily commute. Despite mpg being my main reason, I have to say that I'm so far extremely impressed with all the amenities and creature comforts the Prius offers. The navigation has been leaps and bounds better than my old Garmin. The factory audio, while not competition-level, is still very impressive with the added ability to sync up to Bluetooth, iPod, or use the 4-disc changer. The ride is also extremely smooth with almost no road or cabin noise whatsoever. I've even got plenty of trunk space for a mini-compressor, emergency road/zombie kits, and groceries. I never pictured myself as anything but a truck guy, but looking over the display screen and seeing an estimated 45-50mpg definitely makes me happy with my decision. I also wanted to thank the folks here for running and chatting on the forum. I've already researched a ton of things (circulating air from door handle is normal, ordering Wet Okole seat covers tomorrow, fog light kits take 2 hours to install), and hope to continue to read great information and chat with the "locals".
250+ miles per day! OMG! And I thought my commute was wretched... when I'm working, it's 112 miles round trip. Welcome to Prius chat! :welcome: Is that your actual license plate? I love it
Congrats. I am sure you will love your car as much as I do and most of us on here do. It truly is a great car. :welcome:
OMG...250+ daily commute. Been there, done it, did...I definitely can understand your need. I did that same daily mileage commute for about 2 years; from Pinehurst, NC to Wilkesboro, NC Congrats on your new Prius and welcome to PriusChat. You'll certainly enjoy the high MPGs, technology and low emissions. I'm headed to Baltimore in July to see a couple Indians v. Orioles baseball game. What's a good hotel near the stadium?
I have one good rule of thumb for Baltimore: Leave before the sun sets. Truthfully, the last time I spent the night in the city was after I saw a concert, and stayed at the Sheraton in the inner harbor. Very nice. Or, at least it was 8 years ago! Good luck
In fact, I think I read it almost cover-to-cover while at the dealership. I've always prided myself on trying to do as much research in advance of any purchase, but sometimes it's handy just to go right to the source. Given that my sales "experience" took the better part of 5 hours, I had ample time to read I also see from your sig that you have a bass enclosure in your boot. Are you happy with the sound? I'm still getting used to the multitude of speakers the Prius offers, and the two front speakers up by the windshield just seem overwhelming to me, to the point that I've changed the positional audio almost the middle-rear of the vehicle. I'm thinking a little more bass in the back might even that out.
