Anyone know where to get it besides the dealer?

I saw one on eBay for $199 yesterday. I did a search for "Toyota Gen 4 DVD" and it came up.

That's what the dealer charges. I'm trying to pay zero or close to zero as possible.

Due a search on your local Craigslist. Typically under $100 for the newest and greatest.

    :)

PS: Just checked L.A. area real quick, $80 in 310 area code.

Will the Gen 4 version 10.1 work in a 2004 Prius?

Just checked and I see what you're talking about. Still looking for a free source.

    Yes it will.

    I believe it's Sept. 2010.

Awesome- thanks for the info. That DVD should have the Hawaii maps I'm looking for.

You could always break in to a Prius that has the updated disk and steal it. Or just rob a dealership late at night. :D

I am still looking at buying an 05 with nav so I would like to know if the DVD stays in the unit or you take it out once installed ???? Side note, why not find someone with it and copy the disk ????

All Toyota Nav systems require the disc in the unit at all times.

I've never tried duplicating the DVDs, but I have heard that it is extremely difficult to do, down to using the right burner, discs and software. I've seen a few threads over the years about doing this, if you want to search. Wouldn't recommend trying though, you are likely to waste your time & money...

The last I heard the DVD readers in (all models of?) the Prius refused to read a DVD-R. They would only read a factory pressed DVD.

Previous threads had stories from people who made a DVD-R copy which would work in a Lexus but not in a Prius.

I would be interested to hear from anyone who has gotten a DVD-R to work in any Prius.

Has anyone bought an update disk from toylexnavdvd . com? Seems too low a price ($45) to be real, but I'm very tempted.

I placed an order today for a Toyota Lexus V10.1 Generation 5 Navigation DVD- I'll post when I get it and whether it works. FYI they use google checkout so they don't directly see my credit card info. Got my fingers crossed:)

$25 might not be enough to cover their costs. Licensing map data isn't free. I wouldn't be surprised if the data needs to be massaged/converted to whatever the nav system reads.

That said, it should be competitive in price w/map updates for PNDs or at less least than the cost of brand new PNDs.
