Shipping on those speakers to the west coast is UPS Ground so 5 to 7 days. That's not a problem for me, I'm slower than that.:D

    What XS650 said.

It's about 3/32 of an inch thick, if that helps.

It's not the weight ... it's the ability to cancel resonance that gives it it's sound deadening abilities. Some people go crazy with it and basically disassemble their entire car and put it everywhere, and sometimes even double it in thickness. Some of the pics are amazing if you google 'Dynamat alternatives'.

Yeah, that's a non-issue. It will probably take me longer than that after they arrive to get around to installing them:cool:

Revhigh, and hoffy2. I bought speakers and a Sony unit to replace speakers and radio in my older Camry last year from Crutchfield. Not only do they send you every thing you need for the installation they will also answer your questions. Don't know if that's important to anyone else, but I did have some questions and they helped me. You can't talk to Amazon like that! Just my 2 cents .........

Crutchfield is generally the best deal going, IMO.

I'm glad I came across this thread. The noise when I dropped off passengers from the door was embarassing, and I've always hated the speakers. I just placed my order! Thanks!

    You're welcome FFFF !

Keep in mind, the Pioneers aren't great in my opinion, they're just a lot tighter and more accurate than the factory speakers. I don't want to give people the impression that I think these are the best speakers for the Prius, they're just a considerable improvement. I think to get into a system that is drastically better, you'd have to get into the Infinity Reference line (or better), which I think are excellent, and maybe add a small amp and sub.

For now my system is considerably upgraded IMO, and the Peel and Seal in the doors was like a night and day difference.

I haven't removed my door panels yet. I'm not totally disappointed with the stock speakers, but I do hate the tin can sound of the doors.

Can you apply the peal and seal without removing the speakers? I wasn't sure if you were accessing the outer door skin through the speaker hole, or if you can get to it elsewhere.
    thanks!

Not easily ... you may be able to remove the plastic sheeting that covers almost the entire door, but I will tell you right up front ... that stuff will NOT come off easily ... it is glued on with a bead of tarlike substance, and it is damn tenacious. I think in order to remove the plastic, you would have to destroy it. Even then, the area where the plastic is, is NOT where you want to put the Peel and Seal. The area where you want to put the Peel and seal is right behind the speaker.

I'd pretty much say that you're gonna need to remove the speaker to do what I did. The area behind the speaker is pretty much free and clear to work with once the speaker is gone. It's no big deal to remove the speaker ... it's just 4 rivets. If you want to replace the same speakers, just screw em back in, but it won't be easy, since you can't really get behind them .... which is most likely why Toyota riveted them in to begin with.

And yes, I did the entire application of the P&S through the large 6X9 hole that the factory speaker came out of. I can't see any other way to do it.

Thank you very much for your interesting post, revhigh. It was my understanding, perhaps mistakenly, from reading some earlier PriusChat posts that the signal in the speaker leads to the 6x9s in the front doors has already passed through the crossover located at the tweeters up on the dash. Hence replacing the front door speakers with a full-range speaker would have the high frequency signal significantly attenuated. Is that incorrect? Are you getting high frequency sound out of the replacement door speakers?

Also, if the door speakers are lower efficiency, is the balance between the tweeters on the dash, and the replacement speakers in the doors still ok?

According to Crutchfield, it is a full range signal to the 6X9's, supposedly there is a small crossover on the squakers to limit their range to highs only. I think the new speakers are a considerable improvement. They are far tighter, but as I said ... less efficient. I haven't noticed an issue with the squakers not being balanced OK.

As far as I'm concerned, the mids and highs are being produced by the new 3 ways. :D

the speakers are $43 shipped at BUY.COM

    Buy.com - Pioneer TS-A1673R Speaker

FYI....I installed the POLK Audio DB651 speakers in the rear and actually, I'd like to have my old OEM speakers back!!! The Polk aren't nearly as efficient (LOUD) as the OEM speakers; note-I have a sub so the OEM speakers in the front are perfectly fine.

Good price , but no brackets or wiring harnesses are included, which are EASILY worth two or three times the small difference of $6.

So, if I install these in just the fronts, would they not sound very good since I didn't install them in the back as well?
