My last 2006 Prius was Rattle City. I haven't taken delivery of my 2010 yet so I don't know what's in store for me there. I'll report back. When I bought the 2006, I had so much noise they took out the dash 3x's. Said the factory didn't put in enough insulation. When it gets cold, the 06 was really loud. Especially this week where the temps are freezing in Illinois. I just turn up my radio to drown out the annoying rattles and creaks. :)

I am in Georgia and park my car in a garage at night, so I don't have the wide temperature swings some of you do. One day, however, it got very cold while I was at work and, as I started to drive home, boy was the car creaking in the dashboard. I thought "oh no, it's starting!!" However, the noises went away as the car warmed up and have not recurred. 2,000 miles and no rattles. Knockin' on wood.

When it's cold, the plastic shrinks ever so slightly, so there's more room for rattling.

My wife's isn't bad but mine is awful. Hers - over 20K miles, mine, under 2500. Been WAYYYYY to busy to go back to the dealer. (had a fire in the building next to mine, had to move my office to my house).

I hope to take it in to get it looked at in January. It's all in the passenger side of the dash/console. Nothing in the glove box but the manual.

My 2008 has rattled inside since the day I picked it up. I've taken it in time and again. Dealer fixed (after the 4th complaint) rattle in RR seat latch, but they say they can't hear the clunking in the engine compartment, rattles in dash both left and right, and driver window rattle when open (now it rattles when closed, too, and the up/down switch doesn't work). I've honestly thought I got a lemon. It's interesting to hear how many other people have the "rattle" problems. Very disappointing to me. Service has been downright annoying.

You have a very good question. I did change from the factory Toyo tires to Michelin - top grade for a sports car actually. The ride and handling have been very good. The Prius 2010 V had the larger wheels and tires. I did have to change them. A quality tire and pressures are very important.

    Hi All,

The 2010 being the first year of production, yea, there are going to be some squeaks and rattles.

But, the center console design is so complicated internally, it may never be able to be mass produced at the cost point they need in the Prius, where it wont be squeaky in cold temps.

Its just not a design that is good for manuafacturing. The 2nd Gen Prius without the big protruberance, is readily made with fewer squeeks. Although, there was the side vent squeak issue in that design as well - with PC poster suggested fixes.

Yep, my 2010 Prius V rattles too. I have a nice one right under the vent near the window on the driver's side at about 40 degrees F, and another from the glove box and yet another somewhere in the rear. Our 06 Sienna creaks and groans from the rear. We had an 04 Solara that had a squeak in the hood and a noise in the front window area near the rear view mirror that I unaffectionately nicknamed "Tikka Tikka" because that was the noise it made. MADDENING! Although it was a great looking vehicle, I never enjoyed driving it because of Tikka Tikka. Just traded a Ford Escape that was so quiet, I enjoyed driving it with the entertainment system off at times. So, I have come to accept the fact that Toyotas in general rattle, which is really too bad.

This is the one area where I am really disappointed in my Prius. Depending on the temperature that day, I get rattles from all different areas of the dash and center arm rest. I took it into one of the local dealerships (which I will never go back to), and of course, they didn't hear any rattles. Sad.

When it's cold, and the road is rough, absolutely.

When it's warm it's pretty quiet.

I get the same right side rattle on my Gen III with 27,000 miles. However, I think it's actually coming from the front bumper. The bumper was replaced a few months ago due to a deer strike, and the rattle seems to have started after that. It is only held in place by plastic fasteners, once of which appears loose. I will see if tightening it clears up the rattle and let you know.

i have a 2004 and there are a few rattles from the dashboard, my top glove box is kind of loose however and seems to be where most of the rattles are coming from. My mom has a 2001 prius and that thing rattles something awful. I can't stand that car for other reasons (way too small, slow, etc) but the rattles would drive me crazy. Haven't spent alot of time in my dads 2010 prius but its only 3 months old so i doubt it rattles that much. the 2001 sienna we have has 0 rattles after 10 yrs and 180k

looks like the 3 main sources of rattles is the center console sliding top and the two front speakers covers!! I;m going back to he dealer to complain if nothing happens I will have to push some rubber between the gaps!!

I hear some people complaining about the rear sits and the hatch!

My hatch rattles incessantly when temperatures drop below about 20 degrees F. I solved the rear seat rattle in my car by lubrication of the latches, not all are that easy to fix unfortunately.

A loud radio and xanax keeps those rattles from getting to me. From what I've read, they seem destined to continue --- the fixes don't work. Toyota could be researching the problem and correct them but when you get the new model you get issues like noise.

I am renting a Prius for a few days to see if the Prius is something I can live with. Its a 2010 with 16,000 miles on it, and it rattles. I am glad to hear others are experiencing this with their own cars as my 1995 Saturn (which I purchased new) has no rattles (!) even wih 217,000 on it. I am beginning to think Toyota cheapened up the plastics and overall fit and finish with the Gen III cars - perhaps to increase the mileage when they changed from a 1.5 to a 1.8 L engine.
