I have very good news... I've finished the mod and everything is working perfectly:) I'll get the write up done and posted tomorrow, but I've got a couple of answers to some of the questions that I had posted earlier...

First, I connected the driver's and passenger door antenna's in parallel and the rear hatch antenna in series with that pair. With my limited understanding of impedance I think that way got it as close as possible to the original impedance without going under. With them connected this way I think the driver's door lost a bit of range... I think it's somewhere around 60-75% of the original range, but in my limited testing it seems to work fine at that range and I don't think there will be any issue. The passenger door's range is similar to the drivers and I think the hatch has a slightly larger range than the two of them, but since I've never had a 3 door SKS car I don't know how it compares to the factory range. The short version is that there doesn't seem to be any issue with the range even with three antennas attached.

Second, as I suspected I did need to use a diode on the connection for the unlock/hatch open switch... without the diode then whenever the front door handles were touched the hatch popped open. However, the good news is that even with just the diode one press of the unlock/hatch will unlock the doors and release the hatch... it doesn't require two presses as I predicted that it would or another circuit to try to get that to work.

But, to repeat, the good news is that it works great and for about $300 and a few hours of work you can get as close as possible to the factory 3 door SKS system on a Prius II or III.

Check back this time tomorrow and you should find my write up.

That's great news! I'll have to order the parts so I can do this!

    Congratulations!

I'm very happy your work was a sucess.

This could be one of the most important mods for the prius base model.

The sks on passenger door (and hatch) is the only extra equipment i miss from the higher versions of the Gen3. I think it is a very good thing (off topic: only the highest version of the new and expensive lexus ct200h have SKS :D ).

I'll be waiting for your pics!

    Regards.

Great work BrettS! Sorry I couldn't do some testing myself to contribute to the project but I'm glad you were able to figure it out!

One thing I want to know how to do after following this thread is how to wire the unlock switch so that all doors or just the drivers door unlocks when approaching the vehicle.

Very nice work! Looking at prices from various vendors, I see that the one you used wants $44.28 for shipping! Did you find a way around that? Conicelli's looks cheaper, after shipping is included.

I'm happy to report that I have just posted the writeup for this mod here... http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...oor-1-door-sks-gen-iii-prius.html#post1271177

I started a new thread just to make it easier for people coming after us to find it without having to dig through the 15 pages of this thread to find the guide. Please read over it and let me know if you see any errors or anything.

Good luck with your own install,
    Brett

Unfortunately I didn't. I liked parts.com because of the cheap prices and the fact that they shipped from a warehouse that was only about 2 hours from me, so I got the parts they day after they shipped... even if the shipping charges were outrageous. If you can find the parts cheaper somewhere else then more power to you:)

Ive programmed over 100 smart keys and recently encountered a car that does not allow me to add keys. It fails on the step in which you remove the key away from the power switch and place it on the seat. The car does not see the key.
The car has a salvage title and had the front passenger side door replaced. I wonder if the door was replaced with a non smart key door with no oscillator...???? Car didn't show any errors when I had it. Its has been at Toyota now for about a week. They can't figure whats going on. Talked to the senior technician today and he said testing the oscillators is the next step.

I found this thread and I haven't had time the read the entire thing but early on someone stated that is was possible to have all the doors unlock when the smart handle on the drivers door was used (instead of only the drivers door). How can I do this?

It's in your manual, under user selectable options, or something like that.
