Other than good handling, this car sounds mildly disappointing. I had high hopes for this one.

It's not a wolf in sheep's clothing but more a Prius in Lexus clothing.

It could be worse, the review could be from a reputable source.

Why is Edmunds Inside Line an un-reputable source (other than you seemingly not liking them)?

The completely unbiased (sarcasm) autoblog, with no financial interests, loved it.

But I should really hold my tongue until I try one myself. I have this car on my short-list... Its only real competition seems to be the A3 TDI.

Pity they couldn't stuff the TCH engine in there and still get 42mpg

    Looking forward to that comparison.

I don't think I've ever read so many different opinions on one car. I've read its cushy, its sporty, its rides great, it rides bad, yadda yadda.

The first round of initial reviews didn't seem to like the drive but the latest reviews all say its a great driving car. Most seem to agree its very well built.

Re: Edmunds drives the Lexus CT200h. Meh

Anyone think the CT200h will be a game changer?

    In what sense, you ask?

Well it's the first dedicated hybrid that doesn't look like a dedicated hybrid (no, the HS doesn't count. It looks like an asian bun on wheels). It could've had a conventional engine for all we know. It could've been another entry-level sport luxury compact hatchback but instead, it's innovative (the bamboo speakers, the multitude of LEDs and of course Lexus Hybrid Drive).

Reviews here seem good with the pros outweighing the cons. This caught my eye!

Can we edit the title to "CT reviews" or something similar

Why does none of the reviews I have seen so far say that it is essentially a Prius drivetrain with a Lexus body? I mean, the specs are exactly the same. Battery, HP, torque, it seems to me it is all the same.
The only difference I see is in the way PWR mode affects the powertrain (I read about "allowing the voltage to reach the maximum of 650V on MG2 when PWR mode is on" on an italian review - ???), steering and ESP/Traction control.
An engine that can go only up to 5200rpm, why does the rpm indicator show 7000+rpm.
In a question: what exactly are the differences between the CT200h and the Prius for the powertrain, the engine, the modes? or is it all *exactly* the same as in the Prius?
If that is the case, then PWR mode is not only a mapping change of the accelerator and how more often the ICE will be left on for prompter reaction, but also the way in which MG2 gets fed electricity (650V vs ???).
Can anyone confirm what is really going on in Power mode on the Prius with respect to Normal and Eco mode? are we *really* sure that there is only a re-mapping of the accelerator going on? Either that, or the CT200h is different. Either that or for CT200h they are telling more things that we have ever known about the Prius, although being exactly the same car, which means, that PWR mode is doing more than was thought (and I have always stated that for me, PWR mode changed also the way the ICE valve timing and MG2 electricity delivery management were done in comparison to other modes).
    Ideas? comment? suggestions?
Can anyone with a Prius 3 try out a Lexus (which btw, weighs practically the same as the Prius) and see if there are any notable differences?

Then the question is: does the Prius do any of the above mentioned things when pressing the PWR mode (with the exception of the handling related changes)? or is it only changing the mapping of the accelerator (which is not what the Owner's manual says on page 171...).

It mentions high levels of response, but not how it achieves them....

PS - the description of ECO mode is exactly the same of what happens in the Prius:

So if it is all the same, PWR mode must likely be the same, hence the belief that PWR mode changes only the gas pedal mapping in the Prius might not be accurate. Either there is a change of supply voltage as well in the Prius, or the gas pedal mapping enables to achieve regions of acceleration not normally achieved under ECO or normal mode, unless pressing the gas pedal deep enough, and the 650V are enabled at all times: the 650V boost is executed therefore when a specific range of gas pedal pressure is achieved.
So either the CT200h SPORT mode is marketing BS (and it does exactly the same as the Prius - except maybe the non-drivetrain specific tunings) or the Prius has another software that manages the PWR mode...

edmunds full test. So, despite the HSD tweekage, it is slower than a Prius. Bummer.

It is heavier and LHD is probably tuned for power response (fun factor) rather than fuel economy.

Every time I look up the release date on the CT200H, it says "First part of 2011.". Where is it??? Gas prices have skyrocketed! Lexus, wouldn't now be an excellent time to release the CT200H ???
