Ok maybe not. I still had about a gallon and half of gas. Driving a 2011 Prius II in So Cal.

Anyways here are the results: 522 miles @ 60mpg.

That's great! Do you drive mostly on flat land? Have the tire pressure at 40+? Place an egg between your foot and the gas pedal? etc. The best I have been able to get so far is about 55, but I have hills, gravel roads, bad gas, etc. to deal with.:)

Got similar results with the 2010. I just drove slower than you.

Yours was in May. For those of us experiencing cold weather, seeing it in February is much more impressive.

Thank you guys. I drove on ECO mode. 90% of the time was on freeway. I live by the foothills so I had some hills to drive on. Being stuck in traffic half the time really helps too. When I do the avg. went up to 70+mpg. The weather was around 50 - 75 degrees this week.

spiderman, my granddaughter bought a used 2001 Prius about 6 months ago and told me yesterday that she's only averaging about 32-34 mpg at most. Never has gotten anything better.

That MPG is much lower than she (and I) had expected. We were thinking she would probably get at least 40+ mpg......hopefully even a bit more like 45 mpg.

What factors could be bringing the gas mileage down?

BTW, she just had a new 12 volt battery installed because right after buying it it wouldn't start. I had read somewhere here that a bad battery could cause low mileage.

I don't know what to tell her but told her I'd ask on this site and let her know. She's disappointed in the MPG figure to say the least.

Also, is the mileage indicator that changes ever so slightly "as you're driving" the actual MPG that you're getting at that particular point in time.......rather than the average mpg that you're getting for a given distance? Confusing, yes! Maybe I'm not stating my question right but hopefully you will understand what I'm saying (or can ask me some questions here to clear the confusion).

I sure would like to help her get that MPG up as high as possible. She's 18, has a 6 month of baby, is on a pretty limited budget, and is attending beauty school to learn a trade.

I would appreciate any advice you or anyone else could give me. Thanks

Posted my best overall tank mpg. During the winter I get a few tanks in the 46-47 mpg range. (do not photograph the low tanks :p) Know what you mean though.

ksstathead, thanks for responding............I'll do this and post it ASAP. My granddaughter is the one who owns and drives the 2001 Prius, I'm trying to do all I can to help her get better MPG.

Sweet! I love how many mileage geeks there are on here :)

I've been aiming for 60 but got my best till now of 58.8 mpg today on fillup after 400 some miles. This is calculated, not MFD, since I often reset to see what works best on individual trips. Very happy with it since it's in February weather. Blog's got the details.

like ksstathead pointed you to the questionnaire, so that will give us all something to factor on. There are others here more into hypermiling than I and will give good advice. As mention, the Prius is very sensitive to the weather. Not only will the cool temps hit you but also rain/water on the road.

One other thing that catches my eye is the fact that your Prius is an 01. I suspect at this point the High Voltage (HV) battery is getting weaker. That may also account for lose in Fuel Economy (FE).

Anyway, hang in there, there is more good advice coming I am sure.

The best mileage I ever got on my Prius is when it was parked in the garage, turned-off. I used no gas nor electric. Of course, it's not nearly as fun to drive that way!
