I've got an aftermarket stereo that I'm installing later this week. I bought the ipod cable for it so I can control my ipod via the stereo's touchscreen. I'd like to wire the cable so it can be used in the center console and i can store my ipod there. I'm wondering how I can "mount" the cable inside the center console. Is it just a matter of cutting a hole? That doesn't sound too aesthetically appealing. Does anyone have any insights to this or pictures/knowledge to share? I did a search, but had no luck. Thank you!
A while back somebody posted install instructions for the USB / iPod connector, which includes removing the center armrest console, which should give you some ideas. Try a search for that.
I haven't seen the thread mentioned above, but one option might be (once you remove the center console) to remove the aux jack plug and use the hole that is left behind to fish the wires through. I have actually drilled holed in the plastic bin for the center consoles for my 2 previous vehicles (to install iPod interfaces). I just drilled from the outside in - after removing the trim panels in front of the center console to gain access (and fish the wires).
Thanks for the insights!..it sounds like taking out the AUX and using that pre-existing hole would perhaps be the best way to go.. I'll let everyone know how it goes and take pics after the w/e's over!
I don't have a part number for the inserted piece, but everything snaps together. I just run the new cable through a blank in the console. It works fine.
