Really with that low of mileage it sounds like it isn't even getting out of stage 1. Again a CAN sniffer would be helpful here to actually see the fuel use.

Remember - the dealer says there's nothing wrong - perhaps now people here can begin to grasp my anger and disappointment over the whole situation, esp considering I opted for the maximum full extended warranty.

    Grrrrrr

Warranties are useless 99% of the time. Why people bother I'll never know.

Go to the dealer and get a reflash. Then tell us how it goes. Don't ask if they can diagnose, just tell them to reflash your engine ecu and your hv ecu.

Both of those suck. Can you please confirm this that I asked before?
It's still 25 km per direction of a given trip and it's 50% city and 50% highway? For the highway portion, I mean actual highway speeds as in 80+ km/h and not stop and go.

Also, from the questionnaire (yes, I know you replaced you battery, but that doesn't mean it's not a dud):
What is the voltage reading of your 12v battery after sitting over night? (Method Here)

I'm doubtful about your Pilot claims since per Best & worst cars review, fuel-efficient vehicles, CR got 18 mpg overall (12 city/26 highway) and they're not towing trailers during those tests.
Totally disagree. On my Prius and previous cars, I've gotten rattles fixed, recall work done, TSBs and warranty repairs done (such as the squealing CHS pump, 2 failed power window motors on my Z, replacement front tires and alignment for the infamous Z front tire feathering problem, axle click TSB on my Z, a leaking valve cover gasket replaced on my Z) and so on...

I just walked around, as I have P2010. I think the only chance to find the reason why the ICE is running is to take the dealer's technician aboard, connect Techstream to OBDII port and monitor/grab the major variables which have something to do with the ICE start/stop.

I can understand your anger and disappointment with the stealership, but am at a loss, after reading this whole thread, at your attitude towards those on here, trying to help.

Brook, I agree with double checking your 12 volt but I'd also double check it's installed correctly. When I changed my 12v I didn't put the terminals on correctly and it resulted in the ICE running alot more often and the HV battery always was recharging, but the car ran and of course there were no codes. I was averaging less than 20 mpg. I took it into the stealership and found out I made a mistake with the install.

What was the nature of your install error, Ryan?

He's on edge. He has a problem that's costing him hundreds of dollars and feels that his dealership and Toyota have been unhelpful.

You have responded emotionally to something you could simply ignore. Please don't post in this thread any more unless you have helpful technical information.

One of the terminals were upside down and they weren't tight enough. That was a $100.00 lesson to check and triple check my work since I am a card carrying noob with repairs.

Thanks for the tip however new battery voltage is perfect and no problems with the terminals - I wish it would be something easy like that - a sock or dead mouse in the air intake

    :)

Define "perfect". You haven't answered my questions in http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...ally-hate-my-prius-toyota-11.html#post1262014 which includes a check of the voltage after sitting overnight.

It doesn't seem this was suggested yet (and wouldn't have anything to do w/your ICE running too much) but have you engaged and then released your parking brake, just for kicks? We commonly speculate a sticking parking brake...

Bless you and many thanks for trying... but the vehicle has an issue that is well out of the realm of something like "oh I forgot to release the brakes" or this brand new deep cycle battery is no good. The brand new optima is not defective... .. as I mentioned earlier neither is my stock battery which is now collecting dust in my garage...

Again I extend the offer to any member near me if they want my stock 12v battery it's free for the taking... in good working condition and was not the problem... I just replaced it as a futile attempt to help my poor prius.

If someone wants it post or PM me or I will eventually recycle it but it does seem like a shame because the stocker is not cheap.

I find it less likely that you forgot to release the parking brake than it somehow sticking, which might not be resolved by applying and releasing it. But, it's free and worth a shot.

As for brand new deep cycle battery, let's rule it out as being a problem by actually measuring instead of assuming.

This is what the questionnaire and followup questions I and others have asked are trying to do: rule out problems.

Please do go back and answer those followup questions of mine. If you told me that your trips are now 5 km each way or your 25 km commute is actually mostly stop and go and consists of powering up and down the car many times w/stops in between, we'd need to re-evaluate your mileage and whether it's "poor".

look.... now I'm repeating myself. My driving patterns and my commute have not changed since I purchased the vehicle. It's all the same. What I need is real technical advice (like reflashing the ECU or looking for something like a stuck temp. gauge... things an experienced prius tech can go after ... not fishing for something like the brakes are sticking. All of that stuff has been ruled out long ago. In fact (as I mentioned at the beginning of this topic) the "techs" at toyota have in fact given the vehicle a thorough once over and have declared it to be in good working condition.. You see - they dont warranty the economy - just the idiot lights.

I mentioned that before but got no response. The mileage is similar to running it in B (i.e. letting the Prius idle at traffic lights, maybe not 10L/100km cause that seems excessive but more like the 8L/100km mentioned earlier. I'm not sure if he's resetting it for every trip or maybe cause it's winter but I didn't think 10L/100km was possible with Vancouver's winter conditions. Our 2.4L Camry got 11.3L/100km according to its trip computer at worst in all city driving. It was rated at 10.1L/100km city)

I totally agree. My Toyota (standard and extended) warranty has been totally useless, it seems like the dealerships don't even want to look at my car from my (repeated) complaints (I have a window that's acting up now).

Just curious - I'm assuming you got the alignment checked? My suspicion of your issues is still based on the fact that you had water in the back of your car (although I am not a mechanic).

I'm sorry, but while I don't believe that it fully explains the change in MPG, I find it difficult to believe that your driving patterns haven't changed at all. There may be multiple issues contributing to your change in MPG. Some of them may very well be because of repairable failures of equipment in the Prius. Others may be due to changes in driving patterns. As I said in an earlier post in this thread:
Of course some of my figures are only extrapolations and estimates based on the model year of the vehicle and the limited information you have supplied regarding odometer readings and driving habits. It is entirely possible that you bought the 2007 new in December of 2007 and that you have only 62,500kms now. In that case all of my assumptions about driving patterns are obviously incorrect.
