So I'm really concerned with the safety issue of replacing the headrest and currently searching for other alternative ways to entertain my child in the rear seat. I've been driving with a pinned piece of paper to my rood to see if I get enough rear visibility, and meanwhile I came across this solution that is installed over the armrest. Did anybody try that? It doesn't seem to be popular in the US for whatever reason. It is not a portable unit, it's wired.
The armrest in the Prius is pretty narrow... I can't see more than a 5" monitor fitting there. What about a thin monitor on the back of the front seat?
Well, I personally see it causing a safety issue. None of those were tested as real cars do. Especially considering the fact new prius' have active head restraints (though after doing some research that shouldn't be a problem, but again, wasn't rested by anybody).
I actually first saw it at one of the oversee's sites and then simply tried to search ebay and there are a lot of them listed there. Check it out yourself.
The leg stand forks by which the unit is attached to your car's armrest can be adjusted to fit widths from 160 mm ~ 230 mm. 8.5 Inch TFT LCD. So the monitor will fit easily, it's the fork that might be just a little bit too big, but I'm sure there are ways around it as there is plenty of room (i measured) and might simply require some "padding" in between.
