Considering a 2011 Prius IV. Decent deal?

    So the wife is tired of shifting her 2006 Mustang GT in traffic. We looked at a 2011 Prius iv with nav and solar roof. MSRP was 32,500. I owe 14,500 on the GT. KBB lists the dealer trade in as 12,250. What we were offered was $34,000 OTD. It breaks down to $12,000 offered for our car and $29,457 plus TTL for the Prius. She has only owned the GT for 8 months, so I expected to eat a few bucks on trade in. Anyone think I could do much better than this considering the $2500 negative hit on the mustang? Located in Florida btw. (P.S. Great forum here. Hope to do lots more reading here if we can make the numbers work.)

    Have you looked for any IV 2010's with solar?
    IME you'd be able to get better pricing on a 2010 with the current incentives considering you'll be upsidedown. You "should" be able to get a 2010 IV w/solar for about $28,000 (this includes $2000 in incentives). Your dealer still has to knock of about $1500 to make it a fair price IMO.

    The invoice for a 2011 4Solar is $29767 which is the AAA price around here. MSRP is $31790 so what else is coming with the car?

    Just bought the 2011 Prius IV w/solar? Good deal?

    I wouldn't go for it. I just got a 2011 Prius IV with Solar Package for $28,000 (MSRP $32,115, Invoice $30,407). Leased for $389 down, $309/month for 15,000 miles per year in Raleigh, NC. Might have been an end of month write off but I think it's a decent deal.

    How does that compare? They gave me a great trade in as well @ full Kelly Blue Book. Is this a decent deal?

    Base price is $26850, solar package is 4,180, Carpet mats $299, toyoguard elite-XY80 $699 and a dealer delivery fee of $785 gives me a total of 32,813. I did notice that the carpet mats and toyoguard were not listed on the actual windows sticker. The windows sticker has an MSRP of 31,815. The other info was listed on the "online window sticker".

    I noticed a few differences in the "online sticker" and the actual window sticker now that I am looking. Online shows a JBL AM/FM 4 disc changer, and the window sticker shows a JBL AM/FM 6-disc changer. I will have to check it out and see which it has. Did they offer both?

    I can't speak to the Prius side, but you should be able to do better w/a private party sale than letting the dealer ream by trading in. I've always gotten way more for cars I've sold than what dealers were offering me. (Yes, it's pain though.) Look up what Edmunds and KBB say for private party value.

    The flip side is that in your state per What Fees Should You Pay? — Edmunds.com, trading in saves you on sales tax of the purchase.

    (I used to live in CA where trading in does NOT help save on sales tax.)

    Wow, expensive thing to do after only 8 months with Mustang GT? Whose idea was it to get the GT in the first place - wait forget that - no use arguing it now. I second the idea of trying to find a 2010 vs 2011 because of the incentives. Do you need the Solar pkg - you didn't have it before so I'm sure you won't miss it. It would make the deal financially better for you.

    car base invoice $26650 msrp $27635 AAA price $25650
    solar option $ 3531 msrp $ 4180 $3658 mats $ 127 msrp $ 200

    Total $30308 msrp $32015 AAA price $29308



    The 2010 only had a 4 disc unit. We were told there were no changes for 2011. Mats (4 floor & deck) are an accessory. Toyoguard is a Port Installed Option (PIO) or a dealer add on. It's not on the AAA list and is junk.
    The destination charge is included in the base price.

    The 6 disc CD player sounds bogus.

    This price is available from a dealer 10 miles from Miami.

    The car is for my wife. She had a Honda Accord that was paid off, but had a collision that totaled the car. We were without a car for about 3 weeks while looking and the Mustang was quick decision that she thought she would be ok with it. She has driven manual mustangs before and really enjoys driving them. However the combination of the traffic (bumper to bumper) and an extremely tight parking situation has made it become a pain for her.

    We had never driven a Prius before and most likely would never have considered one. We needed to make a one way trip with a car so I asked the rental person to give me the best fuel mileage car they had. It was a Prius and we were both impressed.

    Her Honda had a sun roof, so she wants one in her new car. She has her mind set on certain int / ext colors so there are not many cars in the area that fit the options and colors she wants.

    We keep our cars well after they are paid in full so an extra $1500 dollars for the mustang will not matter much over the 10 years or more we will keep this vehicle. I got the dealership to throw in all weather floor mats, and a cargo area mat and we made the deal. The $17,000.00 in fuel savings over 10 years, and the cheaper insurance will help out as well. She is excited about her new car, and is looking forward to seeing how many MPG's she can manage. 97 miles on the car so far. Wish us luck!:rockon:

    The AAA price you list at $29308. Is that including tax, tag and title? Or are all of those added in after?

    :welcome:Welcome to PC and the Prius family. I was joking about whose idea for the Mustang. I should talk....about 10 years ago I went through 3 cars in 2 years - I couldn't make up my mind what I wanted! It was really pathetic.:p I finally settled down when I started thinking that it's just a car that provides me a means of transportation. My most recent "ah ha" moment:rolleyes: occurred on a trip to Europe where almost everyone drives a small efficient vehicle, which led me to the Prius.

    Thanks for the info. Knowing that I am happy with my price of $29457. I'm sure it's far from the best deal around, but my wife is loving her new Prius and I feel I got a decent price. It had all of the options she wanted and was the right color. There were not many IV's to choose from. Lots of III's in a 2010 and 2011.

    The lower price isn't always the best deal. The important thing is that you are happy that you got the car you wanted. No matter what anyone pays for a car there will be someone out there that paid more & someone that paid less. I believe you got a good deal. 4's & 5's are tough. 2's & 3's are a dime a dozen.
