San Francisco recently passed an ordinance calling for hybrid taxis, and it's currently being phased in. At present over half the fleet are hybrids!

The Toyota hybrids have proven way more reliable than the crown vic, and even the Ford Escapes are more reliable!

Haters will always be haters. There's no convincing other wise. For me, I hate the VW TDI. I've never driven one. I've never sat in one. I don't care if it gets 200mpg. I don't care if it has all the intelligent car features in the world. I don't care if it's free. I don't care how great it is. I don't care if it can last 500,000 miles maintenance free and repair free. I will never ever ever drive one or own one. If it's given to me, I will sell it immediately. However, If I see one on the road, I won't go as far as damaging one like some people. I won't goto a TDI forum and troll. I'm sure there are many many people share my feeling and level of hate but toward the Prius.

To think they actually went 1,000,000 km without a shorter accelerator pedal? Oh, but that was in Canada...

The 'shorter pedal mod' was done here, too.

if they really go through that many brake jobs on corollas how many sets of tires do they go through on the prius? I mean change every 2-3 months? Thats a lot of miles. If they don't I want to know what tires they are using so I can buy them.

Well, not quite. They won't replace Pearl's coolant transfer pump, even though it squeals. They also won't cut Pearl's accelerator pedal. At least not until they "pry the FOB from my cold dead hand". ;)
They WILL be replacing the inverter coolant pump soon.

I would suspect they change tyres just as often (assuming a brake job is every 60-70,000km, most tyres last about that long.. I never understood the tyre manufacturer warranty of 100,000km treadlife when you'll most likely get less than that).

I've seen them use a variety of tyres. Given that they go through that many that often, you can bet that they're more normal AS tyres than "touring". (e.g. Michelin Harmony vs. Michelin Energy MXV4 S8 for example or Goodyear Regatta or Integrity vs. the Goodyear Assurance line)

I'm replying to this post just to move it up from page 9 to page 1, so that the naysaying trolls and other Prius whiners have to see it again.

    Thanks to Tideland Prius!

Only thing wrong in the video is that the price -HASN'T- gone down. It's actually slightly higher. They just made it look like it went down by removing some stuff and changing some stuff for less expensive (and less useful) versions. Such as "including" SKS, except it's "one door" SKS, not three door. You have to pay extra for three door.

Minor point, yes. Just the same, it's a point nobody seems to notice. I guess that's good marketing.

You see, Pearl was "fully loaded" except for navigation. I paid $34,000. The equivalent model now is $36,000-$38,000 (it's difficult to compare "apples to apples" due to the difference in bundling of options). Oh, and I got $$$ back from the government for buying a Hybrid. Don't get that anymore either.

Not quite the way I see it.

At each trim level there were typically some losses and some gains. For my purposes, the gains far outweighed the losses. For some people the reverse may be true but I believe that they are a minority.

I've always wondered if the new Prius V partially owes it's existence to taxi cab owners requests for more luggage space and rear seat room for their customers.

Fotomoto, I beleive you're referring to the Prius v. It appears that the Prius C goes the other direction.

LOL, yup. They are right next to each other on the keyboard but miles away in design. I corrected it. Thanks.
