Replacement Nav Software?

It won't work. The Nav software is specific to the unit.

It is a proprietary OS. It's not going to be hacked unless you work for Denso, unless you want to go through it byte by byte.

This week I have been in Florida in places that I have never visited. The NAV system DVD V10 has worked very well so far. It got me to my condo/ destination perfectly. It got me to the hotel we stayed at half way to Florida. It has been flawlwss finding reataurants, golf courses and addresses in Daytona Beach so far (6 days of travel.) By the way, it did exceptionally well helping me to navigate through the major cities on Rt. 95 (I thought Boston drivers were bad but New York/New Jersey drivers are suicidal.). I had great luck with freeway mode finding gas and food at exits. I like the way it shows me which lanes to be in way in advance and the voice guidance is very helpful in areas where there are several close sequential merges. Off to Disney next week, then to Boca and Fort Myers before heading back to Daytona and then northbound to Massachusetts. So I should get it shaken out pretty good over the next couple of weeks here in Florida.

 

There are many people on this site that are not having issues with the Prius Nav system. I being one of them. I have had mine for a litlle over 18 months and have not had an issue with my NAV or GPS. The setup instructions are a bit lacking but once you understand the configuration parameters and how they function and get the proper setup, the system works very well.

What you read on this site are the ones that are having issues and they are normally very vocal about this. Anything that you read on this site, you need to take with a grain of salt unless there is an overall conscensus that there really is a problem.

If you have been using a Garmin you will most likely not like the Toyota/Denso system. It is obsolete and was not well designed to start with. I have learned to cope with it, but I will never learn to really like it. As you mentioned, I ended up getting it because it was part of a "package" and I wanted some of the other options.

 

I like my oem nav. Only complaint is that you can't enter destinations or punch phone digits while moving. But there is a workaround for that. This system is much easier to use than those in my previous cars (VW and BMW).

 

I've had a few problems with the software on my 2010. I've only had it for 3 weeks, but mostly it's worked fine so far. My biggest peeve is trying to enter the destination or a phone number while moving. I'd be happy if my passenger could do it for me, but I guess Toyota decided I wasn't competent enough to make that decision myself. You say there is a work around for it, can you tell me what that is, short of pulling over on the freeway and entering a destination or trying to get the voice thing to work while driving?
