I have a Gen 3 Prius V with navigation. I synched the contacts on my iPhone to the address book on the Prius without difficulty. My problem is that the address book is sorted by first name. (I would prefer last name). I can't seem to find any settings in the Prius that allow you to sort by last name. Is it possible? One more question for extra credit! I have more than 1000 contacts on my iPhone which I synch with my computer via mobile me. Any hints on the best way to select a sub list of contacts to download to the Prius? Thanks!
did you ever happen to find a solution, I have exactly the same two issues... Would be willing to sync directly from Macbook if this is the solution... kind regards Werner
The only way that I know of to accomplish this is to re-enter on your iPhone your contacts, where first_name = last_name and last_name = first_name, pair with the Prius, then re-enter in the correct order on the iPhone. I'm not sure that this is a task that you'd like to take on with 1,000 entries. Marshal Marshal
My question is how did you get the iPhone to sync with the Prius' address book? I have to manually update it when I update a contact in my iPhone's contacts book.
My experience is you have to manually transfer the iPhone's contacts to the Prius, as opposed to it automatically syncing every time you start the car. A mixed blessing--in a previous car, it did automatically sync the contacts, which resulted in an annoyingly long delay before you could use the phone every time you started the car.
Ahh ok thanks! But I can't even manually transfer. I have to type it in in the Prius address book. My previous phone had the option of sending contacts to the car (manually) via bluetooth.
I don't have an iPhone, but I'm going from memory when a friend paired his with my Prius. What I believe we did was press the off hook steering wheel button twice, and on the nav screen pressed the contacts button, at which time the system said there were no contacts, and would I like to transfer them, and we followed the instructions. Hopefully my memory is correct and it works for you--let us know.
That's correct. You go into the Prius and find that "Transfer Contacts" button but I believe there's no way on the iPhone to send stuff via bluetooth (and not just contacts to the car but I believe you can't send photos and stuff to other phones or bluetooth-capable desktops/laptops because there isn't a "transfer" buttton on the iPhone). IOW, I want to confirm if it's the limitation of the phone and not the Prius or maybe I haven't found the secret. I'm still new to the iPhone.
Since I don't have an iPhone I can't try it now to refresh my memory, but we were able to transfer all the contacts (500+) from my friend's iPhone to my Prius. Have you tried the process I described in my previous post? We were able to do it without any referencing of owners manuals, so it was pretty easy. See attachment for instructions from page 131 of nav owners manual.
I forgot to try it when I went out today. Your method requires me to delete my entire address book. I'll try the Transfer Contacts button but if IIRC, it says to control it using my phone. I was able to do it with my old phone, so I just haven't figured it out on the iPhone. I'll have to remember to try it tomorrow (it's a little late now). Thx!
So I tried it today. When I clicked Transfer Contacts, it says "please operate the phone". In my V3 RAZR, this is when I go to my contact that I wish to transfer, press menu, select "copy" and select "bluetooth". On the iPhone, when I go to the contact that I want to transfer and press "Share", I only get two options - E-mail and MMS. No bluetooth option. I guess it's the limitation of the iPhone then?
I also have a RAZR and am familiar with the, unfortunately, manual, contact transfer process. Since each phone has independent contacts, why don't you delete the contacts from the car while the iPhone is paired (presumably those contacts are on the iPhone), and then transfer your contacts from the Turn off signatures in Tapatalk the instructions from the nav owners manual?
Every time I add or "tweek" my iPhone phonebook, it works to delete entire phonebook and then select transfer phonebook. It results in a complete and updated phonebook in my Prius.
+1 to Carnutt's response, Tideland. The iPhone can't transfer individual entries, but it'll give the Prius the whole phonebook. I think you just have to select "Replace Contacts" instead of "Add Contacts". Too bad you can't transfer addresses for the GPS, too...
Ohhhhhhhhhh ok this just cleared everything up. So it's one of those phones that do entire phonebooks but only if the car asks for it. If I use "Replace Contacts", will it overwrite it or duplicate it? I assume overwrite? Got it. Thanks! I will give it a shot! macman up there just cleared it up. I understand the process better now. I will go give it a try!!
Ok so this is what I did: Go into the Contacts list Edit Contacts --> Transfer Contacts --> Replace Contacts and....... it worked!!! The difference between the RAZR and the iPhone is that the RAZR uses the "Add Contacts" method (because Replace Contacts will wipe out the entire address book and the RAZR only transfers one contact at a time) while the iPhone doesn't have the ability to transfer one contact at a time and thus requires the entire book to the transferred at once and thus one has to use the "Replace Conctacts" button. It was quick and easy and all my contacts were updated! Thanks for all your help and thanks stream for being patient with me! P.S. Just a note for future reference. The Prius doesn't recognise the "iPhone" tag in the contact list beside a phone number and when you transfer it to the Prius, it will use the "Main" icon instead of the "Mobile" icon. No biggie but just thought I'd throw it out there.
