Howdy, just swapped by 2K7 Dodge RAM QC SLT for a 2010 Prius III, going through truck withdrawl.. hoping the 40-50 mpg in the new ride vs 12 mpg on the previous will help me through it :).

Thus far the ride is great, I get up to 60-70 mph pretty quickly; I dont see why some car mag reviewers feel that the car doesn't have enough power; It seems fine to me - but then again the big heavy truck took ~9 secs for 0-60 as well (and slurped a lot of gas doing so). I notice a little bit more road / engine noise than I am used to but it is not intolerable.

I have fog lights on the way through the priuschat shop and thinking about getting the rosen nav system or putting in a mount for my Archos 101.

Here's what I'm gonna sell/trade for my Prius. I will miss a lot about it. 20mpg isn't bad for the beast. But I'll still have my '95 3/4 ton 4x4 to get my truck fix.

Welcome aboard and enjoy the ride. The withdrawals dissipate after about the second tank of gas.

More road noise in the Prius than in the truck? That is a new one... Perhaps it is so quiet some of the time, it is just more noticeable when there is road noise...

    Anyways, :welcome:

So he's got at least a couple of years then. :)

    Congrats!

I also just moved from my old pick-up truck (Toyota Hilux) to a Prius today. It feels like in a different world.

I think I'm gonna have my truck withdrawal as well, especially that truck was my first and I practically learned to drive in it...

    Enjoy the ride!

Thanks for making the shift to a greener choice! I went from an '84 Supra to my Prius, and I actually find I'm getting a lot of joy out of the challenge of hypermiling, like a game, always trying to one-up the last tank! Makes driving more interesting that's for sure.

Oh man, with the straight six? I had one too and that thing had some guts! Had oil pressure problems and so I got rid of it. Wish I had kept it as a project car though.

Thanks for the welcome folks... I agree regarding playing the keeping the band in eco range game - its fun.

I have 60 miles on it now, still getting used to CVT, I keep expecting a gear change to happen...

Regarding road noise, here is some Data from insideline... It isnt the exact models I had experience with, but there is a 2-3 dB difference:

    insideline.com - 09 RAM 1500:
Sound level @ idle db 43.1
    @ Full throttle db 74.9
    @ 70 mph cruise db 66.2

    2010 Prius PHV:
Sound level @ idle db 39.4
    @ Full throttle db 73.0
    @ 70 mph cruise db 69.5

I think a quieter tire will lower that 70 mph noise. There are many choices out there and easy to pick out on tire rack.

As you can see (rather hear), the prius is only louder than your old truck at the 70mph cruise. I suspect this is mainly due to the prius tires. Also at idle, there is no contest when the hybrid ICE isn't running.

Just think of all the money in gas you will save and that will help you miss your truck less. With the money you save in gas you can go rent a truck for those days you really miss it.
