I'm considering buying a used 2nd gen Prius for my daughter. Would probably be looking at a 2004-2006.

I'm a good mechanic--have done 90% of all maintenance on my own cars for 40 years--but don't know what to be looking for on a hybrid. I'll do some maintenance on the Prius, but she'll be going to the dealer (cringe) for Prius-specific things as she won't be living nearby.

There doesn't seem to be a thread on this on PriusChat, so all input is welcome.

    Thanks!

i would look for one with decent miles and a clean well maintained record. my daughter has my old 04, so we know the history. she bought it from me in 07 with 35,000 miles and now has over 80,000. it has never had anything done except tires and oil and a $5,000. rebuild after a deer hit her in vermont. we expect to see many more trouble free miles.

I'd lean towards an 06 or newer, if possible. There are PLENTY of "what to look for in a used Prius" threads.

    Some of these might help:

BTW, your thread title can be confusing as the 2nd gen isn't called the Prius II. On the 3rd gen (2010+), "Prius II" or now just Two is the lowest available model.
