Have a 2002 Prius and was trying to do this procedure listed in the owners manual to check if all the warning lights are working. I do the procedure exactly as described but when I turn the key "Start", the engine starts and some of the service reminder indicators lights light up, but no where near all of them as the manual states they should. Does this mean that the ones not coming on are not working, or am I doing something wrong, or is there a typo in this procedure?

    From owners manual:

    CHECKING SERVICE REMINDER INDICA-
TORS (except the low fuel level indica-
    tor light)
    1. Apply the parking brake.
    2. Open one of the doors.
The open door warning light should
    come on.
    3. Close the door.
The open door warning light should go
    off.
    4. Turn the ignition key to “ACCâ€.
The SRS warning light should come on.
It goes off after about 6 seconds.
    5. Turn the ignition key to “STARTâ€. At
this time, all the bulbs are checked in
    self–diagnosis mode.
All the service reminder indicators ex-
cept the open door warning light and
SRS warning light should come on. The

You do not want to turn the key to the spring-loaded position where the Prius will become READY. Rather, turn the key to the position where the Prius is IG-ON, which means that it is not READY and all of the warning lights are on.

Do not leave the Prius in IG-ON for an extended period of time because the drain on the 12V battery is high, when in that mode.

    Thank you.

I believe is spring-loaded position is the "Start" position, the one before it is the "On" position. So your saying they made a typo and said "Start" instead on "On"?

In the "On" position only a few come on. When I turn to "Start" some of the other lights come on for about 1/2 a second then go off almost to fast to even see, but I can tell that not all of them are on.

When they say "All the service reminder indicators ex-
cept the open door warning light and SRS warning light should come on." do they literally mean all of them, including the triangle of death?

I suppose you'll have to compare the warning lights that you can see, vs. the page in the owner's manual that illustrates the combination meter and warning lights. Pls post a list of warning lights that do not come on, not even for the 1/2 second period of time.

One way to encourage the master warning triangle to come on is to open the driver's side door while the shift lever is in D.

    Thanks for the tip.

I'll try to snap a pic of the lights if I can, it's so fast. Don't know how they expect you to see them in half second.

Is it normal for them to only come on for 1/2 a second?

Used your trick and the triangle comes up, thanks again. Will get back with the rest of the list.

After watching very closely when starting many times to catch those 1/2 second lights, looks like all the service reminder indicators are turning on and off during start up. The only lights that don't come on when starting are the Triangle of death, cruise, high beem, head light, turn signals, passenger set belt. So looks like every is actual good, cause I don't think those are suppose to come on at start, was just looking like like they weren't "all" coming on. But now I see that not all of the lights are "service reminder indicators" and I believe those are the only ones that have a check cycle. Thank you for the help.
