JBL subwoofer details

In the USA I think it is totally different. I have nothing in the hub of the spare wheel that looks anything like a subwoofer. But then again, I have no idea what a subwoofer is supposed to look like.

 

I tried to track this down a while ago - seems to be a bit of info that's still in hiding. I know your US brethren would love to get this info.

I'm guessing it's a low-profile sub - and I've seen a few nice ones ($400 without amp) - but wold love to know exactly what and how they do it over there....

 

I'm just wondering how it is such a secret??? Someone must have pics / stats???

 

I thought the box thing under the passenger seat was the JBL amplifier for the sound system?

 

It is...the folks above are talking about a subwoofer in the spare tire compartment in European models. Not sure about the European JBL system, but the USA JBL system already has 4 subwoofers (in the doors).

hi folks,

i have installed the 8 channel jbl (european) package in my prius. the sub is a jbl part. but not a big thing, i guess 13 cm diameter. the enclosure ist a little bit bigger.

i have attached the installation instructions by toyota. you can see all required parts. my car dealer installed this jbl package in 6 hrs.

I wonder if you could find it on one of the European eBay sites. I have found rare parts for my 71 CB750 on the German site, and the sellers had no issues selling them to me and shipping here. Worth a try.

I doubt that this subwoofer will add much to the American Prius with JBL system. This looks like a 5 or 6" sub in a small enclosure. In essence, this may not provide much more bass than what we already have (2 6x9" subwoofers in the front doors, 2 6" subwoofers in the rear doors). I am not sure how the European JBL system is configured, but the addition of a small sub under the rear cargo floor isn't going to add much more bass. If you guys want more pounding bass, then you need to add a sub that is BIGGER than what you already have...like a Basslink or something along that line.

 

Those 'subwoofers' in the front and rear doors you're thinking of are most likely mid-bass and bass woofers, and not subwoofers. For example, my aftermarket polks in the doors are 6" and they have freq. range of ~45-20k Hz. My subwoofer in the trunk reaches all the way down to 28Hz but is limited to 250Hz on the top end.
