I just picked up my 2011 Three company car last week. There are no differences from the 2010's I have looked at and test drove. I am aware of the new Black / Bisque option. Has anyone else found any mechanical or cosmetic differences between the two?
If there are relevant differences other than bisque/black combo, wouldn't you think they would have advertised them in order to drive sales?
Howdy Vee, Welcome and congradulaions for having a company cool enough to let you drive a Prius. I am a new MY 11 owner myself and looked at a MY 10 before the purchasing the 11. Was your car labeled as a III or Three on the sticker? I know of a few differences the later production 10's had a factory USB interface, it is stock on 11's. The 11's have two bottle holders in the front doors I do not believe the 10's did.
I have to check but I think my door pockets look like that... I honestly never use them so it is something I'd have to look at.
Is the NAV (if you have it) any better? How about FM reception? Are the brakes still as bad (failing when going over bumps)? Thanks.
Thanks, but I thought you meant two cupholders in each door. The 2010 has those exact same cupholders so no difference in the 2011. Those are normal characteristics of the regenerative braking, not "bad" or "failing." The Gen II has the same regen to friction braking transition so no difference.
Okay cool my mistake I did not notice those on the MY 10 that I looked at and test drove. But I kinda flushed the MY 10 when they had a MY 11 in stock. I had also done an online vehicle comparison and it said MY 10 cup holders qty. 4 and then it said MY 11 cup holders qty. 6. I assumed thats what they were referring to, maybe I have secret cup holders. I will consult my owners manual. I am glad that I have been using the Park Button prior to pressing the Power Button, I would hate to have exploded......
I have no previous experience with the navigation system to determine if it is better or not. I did take my DVD out look at it and put it back I did not make a record of its version or date. So far so good though going from a car with nothing and not having a portable unit I am happy/mesmerized. I thought it would really suck over here in the Islands, but it seems to be accurate. It is funny to try and hear her (the nav. voice) pronounce the Hawaiian street and place names. FM reception is sub par, my last vehicle had the FM antenna in one of the rear windows. That was bad in certain locations and for certain stations, I thought the exterior mounted antenna would be better but it sucks. I don't know if it is the antennas fault though or the way the tuner in the receiver is programed. It will stop and lock on to a known station and there will be no audio. So it knows the signal is there but it does not play it.
Well, it looks like MY11 and MY10 are pretty much the same except for color combo differences. Woohoo, my Prius is current at least for another year! BTW, ED, not sure if you know this, but your Prius Five has unique shock and springs...just wanting to spread that around because no one seems to realize that!
I hate to go searching for it but I read somewhere that the 11 have heated seats and lumbar support for cloth seats or is that for PHEVs?
The nav system in Toyota and lexus (so not limited to Prius) will freeze up if co-passenger tries to input address while driving. This is a pretty big difference from the honda/acura and currently there is no way to override the toyota nav. It is like if they are trying to freeze that, there is a lot of things driver can do while driving to cause accidents. Other than that, I am fine with the toyota NAV as I like the bluetooth, back up camera and other features that came with it. Also I dont think we need to update it as much. My acura nav was never updated for 5 years and only recently I got that updated. I like the nav as I can't be bothered with hooking another portable GPS around all the time..
Does anyone look at the sticky threads at the top of the forum? There is a long thread about this starting with the Prius teams announcement about the 2011 model year.
Search for a Prius Team post here on PC a couple of months ago in which they talked about the differences between '10 and '11. There were a few, as I recall.
The only tangible change is the availability of bisque with the black color. The rest are just semantics (re-naming of IPA to APGS, Roman numerals to numbers spelled out). But I guess the OP is asking about hidden or unadvertised differences not included in the latest 2010 models and the TSBs thereof.
