Hello from Thailand. I just join Prius Chat but I haven't got my Prius yet. I will be picking it up before the end of the week. That's only a few days now. Will update again when I finally pick it up Any other members from Thailand or Asian countries here?
There are a few members from Asia and quite a few down in Australia too. In fact there are Prius owners on this forum from all over the world, though as the US is the biggest market for hybrids and as this is also a US based forum you'll find 95% of members to be American - but they're mostly a friendly bunch! So is the Prius a rare thing to see in Thailand? I hear there are large import duties for such a car - is this correct? Would love to see some pictures too. Welcome to the forum and enjoy your new ride.
Prius production in Thailand just started back in November 2010 and the first ones delivered in December. I heard in the first month only 30 Prius were made! So far I still havn't seen any on the roads yet. I'm still waiting for mine. Any day now...
Welcome to PriusChat. Hope you enjoy your new Prius when it arrives. I spent a week in Bangkok back in 1970. It was the coolest city ever. What amazed me most about Bangkok was the blend of western consumer franchises with Thai culture; way cool. Back then the roads were so congested with cars, bicycles, pedestrians and more. I can't imagine there's room left on Bangkog streets to drive your new Prius. Happy Motoring, Tom
I was not born until 1985 so I wouldn't know much about Bangkok back in 1970. Now the roads have improved and we have light rail in heart of the city. But it is still pretty congested, so I guess not all that much have changed. Thanks
Welcome to the group. Getting a Prius perspective from Thailand will be interesting! Hope you check in often... On a side note, I happened to catch "Ong Bak III" the other night on one on the DirecTV channels, very interesting film from Thailand...after 15 minutes I was hooked..Tony Jaa is amazing!!!
Sawadee Krap & Aloha Thana, Welcome to PC! I am also a new owner and member just got my Prius two weeks ago. I am not from Asia but I am half way there. I live in the U.S. State of Hawaii on the Island of Oahu. There are many Thai people here in the Islands. That is very cool that you are getting a made in Thailand Prius. Please when you get it post some photos and let us know about your equipment and options. I visited your country back in 2000 (2543 BE) spending time in both Bangkok and Pattaya. I understand what twittel was talking about the traffic and the roads. I did not attempt to drive while there, it was organized chaos, with all the motorbikes, tuk tuk's, cars and people. It was a leap of faith stepping off the curb to cross the street. You can always tell us farang's because we always look the wrong way first when crossing. I hope to be able to visit Thailand again soon, last time there I did not leave Suvarnbhumi Airport and continued on to Laos. Welcome once again. Aloha, Ed Waianae, HI
Yes, his action sequences and fight scenes are simply amazing. Muay Thai FTW!!! There are quite a few members here who are interested in the Thai version of the Prius. I can tell you that it's not all that great compared to the US version. I put together a little more info on my blog page here, so take a look if you like. Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome.
It does, but not the one with LCD for satellite navigation and GPS stuff. It's just a basic Gen III console.
