So i bought a 2010 Prius about 6 months ago from craigslist. its a great little car, but recently something awful happened. it was a regular day on my morning commute to work. not even out of my neighborhood my throttle stuck open and i was unable to avoid a pedestrian. he is critically injured.. i was contaced by a toyota rep saying to not spread this incident. they say they will settle a lawsuit with me and the family of the injured for 40k and cover all the damages. should i be asking for more? from what i have read on the internet it seems this is a common problem? what should i do? one thing is for sure, im never buying toyota again.
Hi s13coupe, Post the circumstances on the NTHSA (National Traffic and Highway Safety Administration) website. They have an accident reporting section. I am unfamiliar with the specific URL. By posting on Prius Chat, you have already exceeded their request to not "spread the incident". And their offer may no longer be forthcoming. This has not been a common problem at all, based on the numbers of Prius sold, and the number of reports made. Many other cars/makes show higher incidence of unintended acceleration reports. My opinion is that the center console causes interferance with the right knee, when one goes for the brake pedal. And in a quick action, it deflects the foot to miss the extra high brake pedal, and the foot catches the accellerator. We have been careful driving our 2010 Prius to flex the foot upward, then the calf to the left, to avoid rotating the leg at the hip, and the knee outward. This is a work-around that avoids the knee interferance by the center console. I have somewhat wide hips, however.
Oh boy haven't some people got something better to do with their time? IF THIS GUY IS FOR REAL THEN I'M THE BL**DY QUEEN!
Somethings up with the OP. A Prius I with Adv Tech pkg? The post at first seems innocent but could it be the intent is to provoke a conversation that further tries to prove a problem that doesn't exist? What is it about these situations - with as much publicity as UA had in the past - that while the throttle seems to work "exceedingly well", what about using the brakes, using the emergency brake, or shifting into neutral, or pressing the power button do drivers not understand? There are multiple ways to get a vehicle to slow down or stop. The OP is clearly at fault for not being in control of vehicle. Is he trying to cover up his at-fault accident with commentary from the public to possibly "bribe" Toyota into coughing up more dough?
Totally bogus post. 1. How the heck did the OP get a trim level I with Adv Tech package 2. Prius' are not known for "stuck" throttles 3. It is NOT a common problem 4. "...not to spread this incident" If this was a true incident, it would have been on the news. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Vic
this also happened to me, at disneyland, on the matterhorn. my settlement was much better: free pass for the rest of my life and free latte's.
Yup, this one is proven fake because the car listed doesn't exist. The mods ought to delete this thread.
If this was real -- or even one of the better punks -- I'd bet Brian Ross at ABC News Nightline: Runaway Toyotas would make it worth OP's time to reject the supposed settlement. I'll soon take lack of appearance there as proof of fraud.
why are all of you so quick to dismiss this? it is real IT HAPPENED TO ME. as for the trim package, i dont know what i have, i selected whatever came up on the drop down box.. only reason i even bought this pile of shit is because it was the only thing i could get financed. and for all of you, i think im going to take the settlement.
Go right ahead, maybe you can buy another Model 1 with AT.....and some driving lessons! If you were to post a readable pic of the Accident Report, that would certainly have to be considered... BTW, what financial institution will give a loan on a car out of Craigslist??????
Thank you for trolling the PriusChat forum. We always get newbies here who want advice on suing Toyota, that's what forums are for! I think I will join one of the SUV forums and ask about suing for my rollover accident, I'm sure they will have some good advice for me.
Got any photo's of your damaged Prius? Got a link to any article or news story about a critically struck pedestarian and a run-a-way Prius? Because as predatorial as the media is, I'm sure an article would of been created. No photo's...no links...just an unbalanced presentation. You don't even know how to write...first you call your Prius a "great little car"???? Even though you supposedly critically injured a pedesterian? Then you call it a P.O.S. .... I suggest you join a local Corvette club and make your next vehicle a Nissan Cube.
Something definitely smells funny here... I'd like to see a scanned document from Toyota or your insurance company, otherwise I'd suggest you take the Toyota settlement money and use it to cab everywhere.
