Is that good or bad? I know 5,500 Prius (11,000 pa) are sold in the UK alone in a six month period and we're just one country out of about 20 in Europe.
The award is good I guess.. the selling rate is info... Don't forget its the first 6 months of production, somewhere I read the selling rate is production limited... you are in the UK, is there a waiting list?
Not that I'm aware of. There are quite a few, actually more than a few, Auris HSD owners on the UK hybrid forums, so I'm guessing they're selling well. I think they're popular with people who want the benefits of a hybrid without making the 'statement' by driving a Prius. Personally I haven't seen an Auris hsd on the road, but they are quite difficult to spot compared the their non hybrid version. I do see a lot of Prius in my town though.
here in europe, pricing is just too high... Prius seems like much better choice. But then we dont have any tax discounts for buying low co2 vehicles.
I know the Auris hybrid is not available in the US and I should really voice these thoughts over on a UK/EU forum (which I will) but: The Auris hybrid (as a Toyota model) totally confuses me when you compare it to the Prius. Initially I thought it would be a smaller car so was really interested to see what kind of mpg it got compared to the Prius...but mpg is pretty similar (on paper), weight is pretty similar, Prices are pretty similar, Prius is only a little longer but the Auris is a little wider, the Auris has a better cloth trim but a smaller boot...now obviously people will have different reasons for choosing an Auris over a Prius (including simply wanting a hyrid in a more conventional and traditional form) but I'm wondering why Toyota even bought a hybrid version of the Auris out when it isn't that much different to the Prius? Surely a smaller or larger hybrid would have been better?
It seems to be $2800 cheaper than prius based no one link I saw. I don't know the point of it or where the Prius C fits in.
It's not as much as that! It's actually £1,150 or $1,825 cheaper. Not much for a car that is almost identical on paper. The Prius has more of an image problem - being the favourite car of Hollywood actors 5 years ago didn't help, whereas the Auris avoids this holier than thou attititude. The other thing is it's just the start of the hybridisation of Toyotas model range. Maybe the Yaris will be next?
You can be sure of that. Honda released their Fit Hybrid in Japan and you know Toyota will counter with their Vitz Hybrid. The question is whether it'll make it over here if we already have the Prius C.
Here in Belgium the price differential between the cheapest Prius III and the Auris Luna (one up from the basic version !) was 3000 euro when I bought it. If you've got kids the rear seats are slightly better in the Auris (a couple of cm more means room for an adult between two children seats !). More importantly, the Auris seatbelts are longer and don't block when fully extracted, which is handy when installing a maxicosy. The boot is the only thing that is really smaller.
its for people that want prius mpg without prius image. one of the biggest "hybrids are stupid" arguments is that they're too big, the auris also helps satisfy that argument.
