While a little more extreme than I need, train horns are always good for a laugh:

now thats funny but i suspect it might get the car keyed .... tks for the write ups, I may have to add those FIAMM horns to command a bit more acknowledgement... kinda wish i could install a switch to go between, "excuse me" and "hey what the f$#k" did you just do.. sometimes we just need a little wake up call at the light.

    tks again

My air horn stopped working last night. I took it apart today and found the relay terminals are not rust proof.

I went to Advanced Auto Parts and spent $1.37 on a new 12V 30A relay. This time I wrapped it in electrical tape. If you are doing a new install wrap it in tape.

I installed a JDM Toyota Premium Horn kit on my 2010 Prius and boy what a difference. It was embarrassing to blow the horn! The horn sounds just like the Fiamm Horns that evpv installed on his 2010 Prius V. The only difference is that the JDM Toyota Horn kit is a direct plug and play install. The JDM Horns have the same connector as the OE horns that come with the vehicle. I love it!! I want to thank evpv for his detailed installation pictures and tips as this assisted me on my install.

If you want weather proofing, cut a finger off a latex glove and put the relay inside the finger then tape off the opening.

Well I did the mod and it was not that hard. I had to remove the clips and bolts from the bumper, because my hands need the extra space to get in and remove the original horns. I think the removal was the hardest part. Anyway now other cars can hear my horn if I use it.

Done. Ordered the horns from Amazon and installed them. Ridiculously good improvement for $20.59! Matter of fact, the best upgrade I've done on any of my cars for the price. I called my local dealer to ask about warranty issues: They told me no problem if the install was done correctly.
One observation regarding the install: I loosened all the "pop" fasteners and 2 bolts for the bumper cover to allow my (large) hands to better access the horns. I couldn't get my hands in the space without doing so.
It is a VERY tight space for someone with big hands!

Thanks for the great tip EVPV - well worth the effort and expense!

Glad it helped, congrats on the install. You loosened the fasteners so you could get to the emblem screws, right? Once the emblem is removed you should have plenty of room to get to everything.

Yes. I used the emblem opening in addition to pulling back the top of the
bumper cover to get the room I needed. I found the right-side horn retaining nut to be very tight. It was difficult to get loose. The left side was easy.

So, is a relay needed when installing these Fiamm horns? Or is there a relay on the car already?

On bikes installing such a horn without a relay makes the horn barely audible.

No relay is needed with the Fiamm Freeway Blaster horns.

Just finished my install, took a while as the horn bolts were really tough to get to, I don't see how anyone could do it without taking out the emblem. My Piaa horns had the connectors on top so I had to put together some short jumper wire connectors between the horn and factory connectors. Used some premium 3M plastic electric tape to seal things up.

    No more wimp-prii sound!

I envy the price difference, I went w/ the JDM Toyota Premium horns (similar sound), but they've recently gone off-tune. I could have paid $20ish (after empl. discount) vs $85!

took me an hour an a half - i was trying to take off the bracket the whole time and frustrating myself. About an hour into it I realized I was working on the wrong nut.
    Sounds great!

Is there a difference between the Fiamm 72012 "Low Tone and the 72112?

The 112 says "Freeway Blaster on It"... I received the 012 which doesn't say Freeway Blaster" and is obviously a different model.
