If you need a key, you can show your daughter the mechanical emergency key that is in your FOB, but who needs it!

Welcome to Priusville and Prius Chat. Read your owners manual from front to back and then again. As you know, there's lots of stuff in it. Also, check out "Hill Assist". I think you'll enjoy it there in the DC area.

Sound familiar My daughter (14) was like "hmm..this is not as comfortable as the acura mdx.." But now she likes the "coolness" factor and wants the car after 3 years. I am like - no way. It will take a bit getting used to but I hope you like it as much as I do. The best part is not going to the gas station and seeing an MPG close to 50 mpg. For the first week or so, I just focussed on getting used to the power button, park switch and keyless start. Only now I am looking at the display to try to get the best mpg. I did read up on the manual as well. I just drive it in normal mode. Welcome !

 

Congratulations...as someone who becomes emotionally tied into the machine that is their car...(I drove my 1993 Accord way too long...) change can be difficult...

Also...My daughter joked, "there's no place to turn a key, it's not a car, its a big espresso machine. Push a button, it hisses a bit, and you move about instead of getting yummy coffee."

That is really funny...one of the best lines about a Prius I've heard...

 

My teen laughed histerically when I told him we just bought a Prius.
He called it a lunch box - apparently watching too much Jeff Dunham.

My 9 year old SCREAMED in horror. She's still scarred from last year's Toyota recalls on the news. We've had the car a week and she still shows distain for riding in it.

Toyota has a LOT of PR to do for the next generation of Prius buyers.

 

Do your really think so? I mean, last years recalls were bad for all of Toyota.

But "kids" aside, I work with younger people. Over 20, under 30, and they seem to get "Hybrids" and Electrics...most of them are very receptive to the idea, concept and reality...

I'm the "old" guy that has had to learn..but they grew up with Gulf Oil Spills..conflicts and High Gas Prices..they also grew up with more recycling and ecological conciousness.

I mean my hope would be your 9 year old might scream because all she saw last summer was one (unfair imo) negative report after another about "Toyota" but I would expect at 16? Hopefully she will want a Prius c....

I don't think Toyota has to do too much to repair an image...build and offer a good product and it will repair itself...it really was never as damaged as CBS...and many media outlets wanted us to believe.
