Guess we'll have to have an outside audio system. I'm thinking like a blown big block on methanol as it leaves the line type of sound

Serious though, I can understand a backup type of alarm. It'd be pretty annoying to have a slow moving forward sounding noise when your cruising down the boulevard with the windows down on a Saturday night

So whenever my ICE kicks off the noisemaker will sound? So if I'm cruising to a stoplight I'll be making some music? The only advantage of that I see is if I'm driving next to another Prius, I could find out who's driving more efficiently. :D

Nawwww jk, I hate the idea.

They don't require you to add anything to your existing car. It's new cars that must -COME- with the device. Be aware, it is possible some automakers will not have to actually -add- anything! All they have to do is put in cheaper parts that make more noise. Maybe the cost of the cars will drop! ;)

Heck, with Pearl I'll just have to trip the coolant transfer pump! ;)

But I have to admit, I get a kick out of Americans and their hate of government rules!

So that means we (current owners) will have the quietest car ever, in American history? Cool!!!

    Why? Some laws just suck.

If our cars have to make noise, then we should atleast be able to decide which noise we want.

I want something like this, so that I can drive by the politicians houses that cam up with this stupid idea.

How about some sort of proximity zapper so when someone steps out in front of your Prius, you hit the button and they get a nice zap in the nice person and get out of the way :p

Can my noisemaker be a speaker under the car emitting sounds like flowmasters on a Mustang?

They need to apply to some technology to this and stop with stupidity. They should make the vehicle emit an RF signal that get stronger as the vehicle approaches like a geiger counter and make the blind have a receiver that makes the noise for them only. Cane mounted of course. Many cars are very quiet. The way the government makes laws is annoying -I can sit in my car with the windows rolled up and have to listen to my windows rattle from some nice person clowns radio blaring two cars down - nothing wrong with that though - it takes dead bodies to make safety laws-decency laws need to be put through too.
