Relax, Judgeless! Everyone who posts a lot in any forum usually ends up getting a warning at some point. Consider it a badge of honor, not a personal insult!:p

On the first link: sorry about that, I guess I have a skewed view of Priuschat. We need to get back on that. We really want to create a Prius-wiki. I thought Danny had opened it to general access and posting but clearly that hasn't happened. One question that needs to be answered is whether or not people will actually dedicate their time to writing the pages.

The FAQ and Knowledge Base forums are disorganized. This is because Priuschat runs on a forum software which is designed for discussions-of-the-day and not a lot of logical organization for long-term reference. It is what it is. And it's several pages because there's a lot of information.

The reason these forums contain a lot of "moved" threads is that (I think) the only way threads get in is if we move them in. When a thread is identified as a "keeper" we move it for long-term reference. I guess we've just fallen behind in moving threads. If you all have thread suggestions to be moved, please let us know and we'll move them. The easiest way is to "report" the first post in the thread and mention in the report something like "this should be in the Knowledge Base."

As someone above said, when we had time, we did things like this all the time. In the past year, it seems like we've gotten into a mere day-to-day maintenance routine. We'll need to fix that. It won't be overnight, of course, but we'll work on it. This will prove to be even more important as the Prius family expands.

So it looks like a thread about duplicate threads which itself is a duplicate of many other threads about duplicate threads will, in the end, serve a valuable service. It's a shame the OP won't be around to see it.

I would - if I know that something might be of help to many different users and know that it has been asked about several times before, then I would write it in the wiki once, rather than repeat it in different threads as they come up from newbies or users that do not manage to find the information in the realms of the forum... ;)

And the beauty of a wiki, IMHO, is that it grows little by little over time, and even adding 1-2 phrases every now and then, builds up to a great work - see Wikipedia.

Likely a lot of search in the forum posts for valuable information and a lot of editing will need to be done to copy, paste it and adapt it to a wiki, but it will be worth the time and, sure, it won't happen overnight, but IMHO it will be well worth it.

Tony, I think a WikiPrius link is a great idea. In fact, if it could be organized by most topics discussed on this forum, it could be very helpful to all who visit it. From what I've seen posted here, most topics fall into these categories (more could be added as needed):

Mileage tips and seasonal changes in mileage
Oil recommendations and frequency of change
    Tires – rims and maintenance
    Exterior finish care
    Interior care
Battery information – HV and 12 volt
    Lighting information and electrical systems
    Interior and exterior noises
Hybrid power train – braking – regenerative systems
    Other miscellaneous

I think Prius Chat should stay the way it is now. Let people start the same thread over and over and over. When someone tries to make a change send them a WARNING!!! like this.

Ok here is my logic. You are simply complaining about people posting without searching first. Tell me how what you specifically are commenting about applies to ANY Prius? A rant about nothing belongs in FHOP or PC website questions.

People starting new threads on the same subject have existed ever since forums were invented. Get used to it.

I have had my Gen III Prius for 18 months. I have posted 839 posts regarding the Gen III Prius. I have noticed in the Gen III Prius forums that people keep asking the same questions about their Gen III Prius. This thread was started because I was I wanted to raise the issues about duplicate threads regarding the Gen III Prius.

Your right this had thing to do with the Gen III Prius.

For the most part, you and I are spot-on thinking the same way. I'm trying to find the thread we had going in the Staff Forum but, as mentioned, the search function isn't the greatest. :(
But basically, we tried to lay out a general outline and table of contents. We wanted the topics to be repeatable across multiple iterations of Prius. Some of the topics you listed got combined into headings and sub-headings. For example, Regular Maintenance would include the oil changes (how-to, oil types, etc) and tire rotations and wipers recommendations, etc.
Initially, it was something we talked about doing to enhance the site but it was entirely driven by us, the four-man moderating staff. So when we ran out of time it was easy to forget about it. Now that there are others asking for it and even offering to work on it, I think it has a better chance of coming to life.
Since we're in the holiday season, it might be a couple weeks before Danny spends any real time getting it up and running for real. As mentioned, we don't have many Knowledge Base articles about the Gen3, which needs to be fixed. But once the "v" and "c" hit, it really would be great to have something in place to receive the data as we get it.

Every forum has this same problem. If you think it somehow affects only Gen III owners you need to get out more.

I suggest you spend quality time with your family and friends rather than waste your time bitching on here.

The real crazy thing, when I come to think about it, is that a lot of forums have rules against reviving old threads, but have rules against starting repeated threads as well - very...defeating in a way.

But anyway, yeah - duplicate threads happen. Good moderators and a sense of community help keep it to a minimum. Report the really bad offenders of it, but going on a personal crusade does not help.

The former rule isn't very common and don't confuse it with a completely different rule against bumping a thread to the top in order to garner more responses. Either way, we don't have a rule against reviving old threads here if the primary objective is to add to the current discussion.

Never did confuse it - was just posing an interesting 'ponder me this' thought. :)
