I believe the border was largely settled between Russia and Britain in the early 19th century. There were some heated discussions about the details later but Alaska in general never was Canadian territory.

    From Wikipedia:
... industrial hemp produce only minute amounts of this psychoactive drug, not enough for any physical or psychological effects. Typically, hemp contains below 0.3% THC, while cultivars of Cannabis grown for marijuana can contain anywhere from 6 to over 20%.

Technically, Ammo is correct. But Daniel's rhetoric is closer to the point: THC in hemp is effectively zero in terms of narcotic effect.

There's nothing wrong with rhetorical exaggeration or bias to drive home a point that might otherwise not be given due notice, in fact, absolute truth in our rhetoric would make a bland discourse that would interest nobody.

    Yep. All of it.

Yes, but at least the majority of Mexicans have some Native blood.

Alaska was never part of Canada.

Europeans claimed large parts of North America that they never really occupied, including Alaska and the Louisana Territory. The U.S. bought those lands from their European claimants, but it was the U.S. that actually did the stealing. The exception is California, which the Spanish stole, and then we stole it from Mexico.

The only land in North America that was not stolen from the Indians was Manhattan Island, which the Europeans bought with counterfeit jewelry.

Anybody that wants to give back the whole kit and kaboodle to the Indians, I'm in agreement. I'm just not making it my issue. I just think we should give Texas back to Mexico. (Or to the Indians if they want it, though I can't imagine why they would.)

DUH Bra... technically... I will be correct... what the hell that means to spin doctors is another thing altogether.

    Present company included.

Once you listen to facts... the truth will set you free Bra...

I deleted the rest of your post because it was also missing the point...

Libbies do that to hide facts...

I ain't hiding anything from scrutiny...

As for hemp/cannabis... it IS one plant with several variations... some of the variants are due to the differing continents, and some are due to interbreeding in modern times to make a more potent buzz, just like rose growers try for the perfect rosebud purple flower...

If you don't think so... you need to read more... just saying...

Did we get any title insurance with those deeds? Did the insurance companies survive the recent real estate collapse?

That;s debatable. One version is that the Indians that the Dutch bought the island from were actually from Long Island and were just passing through.

Conservative: A term politicians use to paint over your genuine beliefs

Liberal: A term politicians use to paint over your genuine beliefs

Is it not time to smack this collective brush out of the politician's dirty hands? In other words, don't paint yourself into a political corner. Once you do, it's game over and the politicians win again.

Instead, start imposing your own terms limits by voting out ALL the incumbents in every election.

/yes: that even means the ones that claim to be on your side

Funny thing is that here in the UK I'd be considered conservative, whereas in the US those same views would be considered liberal.

Fiscal conservative, social intelligent. Conservative and Liberal are two words that have lost touch with reality, people throw those around like they are some kind of battle instrument, reality is that both are needed for a society to work. There are certain things that just make sense, they are both conservative and liberal in function, like national health care as an example, a true system would cover all at the least cost for everyone.

If America wasn't expansionist by nature, the Japanese would own Hawaii. That would have impacted all my vacations for the last 12 years and perhaps the outcome of World War II. And as far as anyone that posts that they want to leave this country. Please do it, now. But I bet you don't have the guts..do you? America is a large dysfunctional family, but we pull together like no other country. Rember the weeks after 911?

Conservative leaning socially and economically (pro-business to a point but not to a fault, I think multinational corporations and international bankers autonomously acting in their own interest is dangerous for liberty as a whole, but so are despots of either the left or right persuasion who are control freaks), for sure, and saving on gas along with reducing my need of it were the primary reasons for going Prius.

In my experience, the greedy conservative doesn't care what quality of environment their children inherit. They openly state that the earth's resources were put here for humans to exploit. The concept of 'sustainability' doesn't exist for the Cheney-Bush-Palin type of conservative. Drill, baby, drill, despite what happened in the Gulf of Mexico, because they need gasoline for their Hummers, no matter the environmental cost.

Not that I have an opinion, of course! :)

To be fair to the conservatives (other than the money-grubbing politicians and talk-show hosts) it's not that they don't care what the earth will be like in a decade, it's that they believe either that the earth won't even be here because we're on the brink of Judgment, or that the Earth has infinite resources and infinite recuperative powers and there's really no problem. In other words, they're not evil, they're just ignorant.

Personally I'm all over the map. Since I registered to vote in 88 I have been registered as a Republican, but to date I have never voted for a republican for president. I likely would have voted to McCain as I have liked and respected him for a long while, but thought that Palin was such a poor choice as VP for an older candidate with health concerns that I just could not vote for him. I grew up in Cambridge, MA - a place that many locals jokingly call the Peoples Republic of Cambridge - so it does not take much to be more conservative then most. I guess that I have always identified with New England Republicans - conservative on financial matters and pretty progressive socially and very much so environmentally.

All that being said, I have pretty much come to the conclusion that I can no longer relate to the current Republican party so next time I have the opportunity to be at the RMV I'm going to change my party affiliation to unaffiliated.

So you believe the military should be abolished, interesting perspective. Killing off groups you don't like doesn't exactly sound very conservative though.

Well didn't you hear... the current administration is looking into a new social program called Gas for Guzzlers. Strictly aimed at those folks the drive SUVs and Trucks with ratings under 15 mpg due to the forecast of gas exceeding 3.50 a gallon.

I consider myself to be quite conservative on almost everything. I have nothing against liberals; they do have a few good ideas.

I have never considered the Prius a "liberal" car thinking back to when I first learned of it many years ago. I think my first impression was that it is a very good idea.

I realized long ago that all the gas guzzling vehicles were dangerously old-fashioned. Yes, there is a need for 4-wheel drive trucks with huge V8 engines, such is in farming, for example. But for an average person, that is extreme overkill.

I realized there must be something better out there somewhere. Electric cars had been invented in the early 20th century (not sure of the year), but they were smothered out of existence by cheap petroleum. Yet whenever an enterprising entrepreneur has tried to resurrect electric automobiles, he/she has been "discouraged" away from the idea by big oil and big auto companies.

Toyota simply had the guts to create a fuel efficient auto and push it out to consumers regardless of what other companies thought about the idea. I am not saying they were the first, but they were big enough to defy the opposition and do it anyway. Now all the other companies are playing "catch up" and "me too".

So what is my point? The Prius is a healthy combination of conservatism and liberalism. It is conservative in that it tries to save gas, money, repair costs, etc. It is liberal in that it is trying to limit such things as emissions, using synthetic oil and recyclable materials, etc. I believe the Prius will eventually be embraced by everyone regardless of their views. Rising gas prices will be a factor in this. The reliability of the Prius will be another.
