You're not making any judgement about people who don't search, are you?

Did you search first to see if Judgeless was being judgemental? :D:bolt:

I Respectfully Request permission to start a new thread about why my fuel economy has dropped this winter.
I cannot find any kind of search feature on this forum, and I don't think this topic has been raised...... :D

Oh the irony. Starting a new thread to talk about new threads getting started.

Nice...and I thought for sure the forum police would admonish you to Fred's House of Pancakes. Actually, I think the search function is a bit weak. It finds words within threads that may not be topically related.

I'm just throwing this out there to y'all.

    Happy Motoring,

    Tom

I find the "Google Search" within the search feature to be more powerful. It doesn't have the same limitations as the regular forum search.

Concur with the difficulty in using the search "feature". I tried to use Boolean terms as well for example:
"new +thread" to see if there were any threads started recently about starting new threads....
    Result:
"The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search: new + thread "

With 300+entries using the term "thread".

Sometimes it's easier to just take the ticket from the Forum Police, smile, crumple said ticket up, and continue riding in the Forum Fast Lane....

I agree with the OP - I see a *lot* of questions about the 3 (4) modes of the Prius, about dropping mpg in winter and similar other topics.
Is there a way to setup a sort of "encyclopedia" or "facts" so that users don't need to start a new thread to ask for this type of information?
BTW: I understand the fact of using the search function, I use that too, very often, but also *very often* the results do not help and after getting frustrated I find myself as well starting a new thread to find the information that I am looking for.... :(

When someone starts a new thread, the site automatically searches the forum for relavent or similar threads in hopes that the person wanting to create the new thread, would look at those before actually starting their thread.

"Notice: When you enter a thread title the system will search for similar threads which have already been posted. That should help you to find answers."

I know, but often what the auto search you mention shows are non-relevant posts....so you end up doing (yet) a new thread.
My point was more that there are quite recurrent topics, and maybe a library (a wiki!) would help.

Is there a Wiki on the Prius 3??? it would be great if we could set up one - there is *so* much knowledge and experience in the Forum that it would make a truly valuable resource for the priuschat.com users as well as others interested in buying a Prius but not into forums.

Danny (the founder, right?) is there a possibility to set up a Wiki on the Prius 3rd gen?

an FAQ would be great but putting it together would be a monumental task and would reduce the revenue on this site...so, any volunteers?

I agree with you that an FAQ is pretty hard work - a wiki instead might be faster and easier to setup and participate to. What do you think?

hmmm. a wiki might be an option but that still removes revenue from this site and i dont want to go there. another thing with wikis is the "authoritative" source used.

here the information changes a lot. although the Prius has been around for a while, it still is in a constant state of discovery. also, the rules dont apply evenly. what is true for me may be very wrong for someone else.

that is part of the reason why an FAQ is so hard. just answering the question "how come i dont get 50 mpg" would be an entire book in itself

Judgingless is a good thing to do, let's find a button to do that.

I have no trouble with the same questions, at least something is going on here. Who wants to read old threads and answers all the time? I am sure this topic has been posted before, don't need it now on this theory.

Leave people alone, and judge less is my judgement.

Here's an example from another forum with a nicely organized area that contains the common topics. Our thread could be called "Common Prius Gen 3 Problems and Solutions". Then just list the problem/solution and add links. It avoids a long list of sticky items in the top part of the forum. And I think people use it more than the dreaded "FAQ" title.

Lots of threads on this forum illustrate the insecurity of quite a few Prius owners. Then the posts within are just delusional nonsense, like how others are just jealous they don't own a Prius.

Seems like a bigger issue to me than this thread.
