I'd like to be able to specify what I'll pay and then find a dealer to match those terms.

    For example:

"$25K out-the-door for a IV with no options, no financing, cash only. That's the exact amount of the check I'm writing, nothing added to that number. That number includes TTL and any fees you guys tack on."

    Lottamoxie,
i totally agree with you. i tried to do that yesterday with the longo toyota and the santa monica dealer in so cal and felt they were trying to hide things and wanted to talk to me on the phone. i told them that i would only talk to them if i get a solid offer. keep us posted on your quest to purchase a prius.

That car you want does not exist. Sorry. I bought a prius III without any options in october from Longo Toyota (SoCal) for $24,777 out the door. Cost of the car without taxes and fees was $22,000. I should have waited because I could have gotten the car for at least $1000 less right now

Anyhow I originally wanted a IV without any options due to the leather seats being standard. Every single IV either has the solar sun roof package or the navigation package. EVERY SINGLE ONE. A Prius IV without the sunroof or navigation is not made.

Please feel free to prove me wrong.

Yes a IV without options *is* made. There may not be many of them, and perhaps even fewer now that the year is almost over, but yes they are (or were) manufactured.

Hey they can hide all they want. They can be as creative with their own numbers as they want. They can play with the balance sheets for hours.

The end result, as far as I the consumer am concerned, is a check I write for $xxK ($25K out-the-door for a IV, in my particular example). And if they don't accept, I walk (hypothetically-speaking since I haven't attempted to purchase a car yet and may wait awhile more to do so).

    hey everyone,
got another quote from tony with santa monica toyota (so cal) for a 2010 prius III, base out the door price of $21,200 excluding tax, license/regsitration. just add 9.75 % tax and license to out the door total. what do you all think?

I think that looks like a pretty good deal. What is the MSRP, around $24,760?

At this point if it is the car you want, I think I would do it. I don't think prices will be getting any better on the 10s. Pick one now while inventory is up and you get the color you want. Even if the prices come down, it won't be much.

If Santa Monica has been good to you, I would just give them your business since Longo won't call you back. You could also tell Santa Monica that Longo offered $21,000.00 and see if they will do it. Even if they don't, I would buy it from them.

How do taxes and doc fees compare between the two?

Here is the ad that came out here today.

This is what I bought. The only option I asked for were floor mats.

    bretaz,
thanks for you insight. i'm leaning toward that quote as well. i did what you suggested and hope santa monica toyota accept the $21,000 offer or $100 more. they have my second choice in color: black not 1st in blizard pearl.

I think that is a pretty good deal. Plus, there really are not that many IIIs out there. Mostly IIs. If you really want the III I would buy now. The dealer I am working with does not have a single III that doesn't have a bunch of options on it. I looked at the inventory at Santa Monica and they dont have alot of the IIIs either. I decided that if I get one it will be a II and I will get the Rosen head unit for it.

Does Longo have have a Blizzard?

    bretaz,
i don't think they have the blizzard pearl. only black, blue or silver.
in your opinion, i just wanted the III because it has better sound sytem and bluetooth. should i get the II instead?

Priusbaker, it seems to me that the $1000 difference between a II and a III is a lot for a little.

    Rake,
thanks for your input and i agree unless i'm wrong. the only difference between package II vs III is the jbl sound system and bluetooth. Am I missing something else?

I thought I wanted a III but then changed my mind when I saw the Rosen system someone had put in their car.

Exactly my line of thinking as well. No point in paying for the JBL and bluetooth if you're going to rip it out. Save the money and spend it on the Rosen, that's what I'd like to do too.

Well - bretaz - thanks for checking with Fremont Toyota. I'm ready to buy now, and I called them and they claim they don't have any left at that price. I'm steamed. I'm calling other dealers in the area to see if they will match. The next best advertised price is 20,544 from Freeman Toyota in Santa Rosa (a bit too far for me to drive). I'll keep looking.
