2010 Prices Paid and Details

Truecar suggests 19,888 is way low. Has anyone actually purchased at a rock-bottom add price? In this part of the land it's virtually guaranteed 'bait and switch'.

Thanks so much for posting your dealer quotes, ads, and final price. It's helped a lot in dealership discussions.

I went out tonight and looked at a III in Pearl White. It had a Remote Start option, floor mats. I think that's it. The dealership offered $23k on the car. I offered $22k which, from what I've been reading, is incredibly fair. They didn't even want to discuss $22k and I left.

What do you guys think? Do you think I can go even lower on the price of the car? I only checked out one dealership. After the hassle they gave me, I'm more than willing to shop around now.

I am located in NJ.

 

You never get the deal you deserve, you get the deal you negotiate. Shop around and see for yourself what various dealers are willing to do in your area. My gut feeling is that for the next 10 days, there are a number of people that want to buy themselves a Christmas present so dealers may not want to give in.

Tech Guy has some good points. Dealers have a finger in the air and sense Christmas, higher gas prices and '11's rising MSRP.

 

Likely but there are 16,000+ 2010 Prius cars out there with the mirror model 2011s out. Not to mention the dealership I spoke to had 50 Priuses on the lot. And yes, Christmas time is around but right now, IMO people have their money elsewhere. Debatable. Regardless, the dealership tonight wasn't full of hustle and bustle.

I think I'll be able to get a lower price than $23k if I shop around. Getting the deal I negotiate and not the deal I deserve rings true. I'll be sure to report back for the benefit of others.

 

If you want a 2010, I think NOW is the time. I have been watching inventory levels here of the 2010s and they are dropping quickly. The fact that 2011s are here and exactly the same car, people who are on the fence will pull the trigger on the 2010.

Rake, I just called the dealer. He assured me that the $19,888 for a II with MSRP of $23,760 is legit. For the last two weeks they have listed 5 stock numbers per week. That price is good for those stock numbers only, and when they are gone, they are gone. He still has 4 of the 5 from last week left. Has about 35 IIs with an MSRP of $23,760 in stock.

Decisions, decisions!

It's a battle isn't it? And 35 II's on the lot in late December will make a dealer do certain things he wouldn't normally do. Maybe you're melting my cynical heart a tad. Yes, I do believe, Virginia...

 

Hello, I am in Socal (san diego) and I need help buying a Prius. I am looking at a Prius 2 with no options, one dealer offered me $21,500. Is that a good price? should I try to get it for less? I am willing to drive if I can get the car for less. Also, what would be a fair price for a Prius 3 with nav? $22,500 maybe? Thanks for any input. Also anyone from the LA/Riverside area, please PM me if you see an add for a Prius that you think is a good price thanks again.

that seems high. i had mentioned yesterday's quote from longo toyota in el monte, ca wanting $24.034 out the door price (tax, license/registration, ect) for 2010 prius III, base. others on the forum mentioned dealer quotes from $20,988 to $21,000 for the same trim. i'm going to ask my contact at longo to match those figures. thanks again everyone for your inputs.

just to clarify. my quote is based on the rebate, no special financing. cash. anyway, i will try to get a lower quote based on everyone here inputs. that seems a bit high for me also considering it is straight cash. i was just trying to get a picture of what price difference i would get with rebate vs interest. i would like to go with some down and finance the rest. anyway, this is for prius III, base no nav, no sunroof for $21,800 or out the door $24,000.

 

I think that is $800-1000 too high if you are taking the rebate. I think $21,000 would be a good deal. Work them a little, tell them you are looking around. Contact several dealers. I think someone will bite on that offer.

Received an offer for $22,500 for the III with Remote Starter in White from the first dealership. This is for 0% financing, by the way. I will keep this forum updated.

@bretaz, I don't recall the MSRP. Sorry. After similarly specing the car on Toyota.com, I believe the MSRP is $25,509. It may be higher, I'm not sure. It has the Remote Start, mats and cargo net, and the premium color charge. Possibly more, I can't recall.

thanks for your post, i read in other thread about the remote starter. some had mentioned third party starter for $340 and dealer install for $250-$300. so that's a value of about $600. pretty good, what do others think? are they throwing in anything else like mats among other things?

did you get your prius for around $21,000 or still looking? i gave the longo toyota guy my counter offer and haven't heard from him. wonder if he's not wanting to budge. thanks

 

thanks for the reply, So prius iii base for around $21,000 and I guess around $1200-$1500 for the nav would be a good asking price? And maybe about $20,500 for a base Prius ii? thanks I will give toyota longo a call.. more input would be appreciated, my car got toalled last week and I am in need of a new car. thanks again

Just wanted to let you know that the remote starter is a Toyota factory option and not a dealer installed, third party one. OEM option. I'm pretty sure the car I'm negotiating has the floor mats and cargo net option, too.

 

does anyone know where the 2011 Prius' will be manufactured? I was going to wait until they came out to see if the 2010 prices would drop but I ended up just buying a 2010. I also thought they were going to start manufacturing them in Thailand. I prefer Japan so I still wanted a 2010.

 

sorry about that. an update to my counter offer to longo toyota. still have not heard from young ji (internet sales manager). i guess my counter is a bit to low for him. what should i do?
