Well I just saw this on toyota.com and tried it out. I kid you not i got $500.

    Toyotathon Shareathon

I dont even have Twitter. But I figured what is the harm. Signed up for twitter and followed the link on toyota's website.

i got lucky and instantly was notified that I got the $500.

It started 12/8/10 and runs to 1/3/11. since we got our Prius on friday we qualified.

all they ask is to enter the VIN of the new car and the pin number that they sent you and they will mail you a $500 debit card.

So this is a legitimate deal? I was able to navigate to it from the toyota website so I assume it's real. Just seems too good to be true. Hopefully I'll get my $500 too.

That's what I thought. I'm going to call Toyota Customer service about this tomorrow. I linked from Toyota.com --> Toyotathon --> Buyatoyota --> Shareathon so seems like a legit deal. I'll let you know what I find out.

Hmmm, you're going to enter your details and vin number on a website which could be based in Malaysia or China or somewhere? Why?

Sounds very very fishy to me. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is!

    Beware.

    FAQ

I don't understand how this works; how can I get more information?
For complete Terms & Conditions, eligibility restrictions and a detailed description of the offer visit http://www.toyotashareathon.com/terms.html.

If I don't have a Twitter account can I participate?
Shareathon is all about sharing on Twitter, and there is unfortunately not a way to participate without a Twitter account.

    What is Twitter?
Twitter is a micro-blogging service, but they do more justice describing themselves than we ever could. Visit http://twitter.com/about to read more.

How do I get a Twitter account?
A quick visit to https://twitter.com/signup will get you a Twitter account surprisingly fast.

What if I am under 18 or I don't live in the U.S.?
The Shareathon offer is only available in the 48 contiguous states and Alaska to those eighteen (18) years of age or older or the age of majority in their state of primary residence (at least nineteen (19) if a resident of Nebraska or Alabama, or at least twenty-one (21) if a resident of Mississippi). If you're from outside the U.S., the offer is not valid.

What do I get for Tweeting?
For Tweeting you'll get a certificate which can be redeemed after you purchase or lease a new Toyota. Once you have your new Toyota, go to http://redemption.toyotashareathon.com and enter the certificate code, the VIN number and the make of the car. Pending verification, you will receive a $500 prepaid debit card within 4-6 weeks.

How long do I have to purchase a Toyota vehicle?
You must purchase or lease your new Toyota between December 8, 2010 and January 3, 2011.

What if I bought my Toyota before Shareathon but during Toyotathon?
The Shareathon offer officially begins on December 8, 2010. If the car was purchased before December 8, 2010 you will not be permitted to redeem the offer.

How long after the purchase do I have to redeem my certificate?
You MUST redeem the certificate at http://redemption.toyotashareathon.com by February 1, 2011 at 11:59:59 p.m. PT or the certificate will be void.

How do I activate my prepaid debit card?
The Prepaid Debit Card can be activated online or by calling the 1-800 number and following the automated prompts. When the card is received, there is a sticker adhered to the front card of the card with the activation 800 number. The card carrier includes activation instructions as well. Please activate the card as soon as it is received.

Are there any restrictions or fees associated with my prepaid debit card?
The prepaid debit card is valid until February 1, 2012 and is subject to separate Terms & Conditions, available at http://www.toyotashareathon.com/debitcardterms.html. In general, there are no activation fees, but if you lose or misplace the card; there could be costs associated with reissuing the card.

What if I lose my card?
In the unfortunate event of a prepaid debit card loss, a new one can be issued for a one-time $10 fee. If you lose your card, please dial 1-866-923-6758.

How long until I get my reward?
After redeeming your certificate, it will take approximately 4-6 weeks before your prepaid debit card arrives in the mail.

Can I give away or sell my certificate?
The certificate is non-transferable and cannot be sold. The name associated with the certificate and the name associated with the VIN number must match. In the event of a discrepancy, promotion entities reserve the right to contact the participant for further verification prior to fulfilling the prepaid debit card.

Certificates have run out, will Shareathon happen again?
The future is a mystery, but if you like the idea of the event please share it on Facebook and Twitter.

Yeah I know it sounds really fishy. Im a skeptic but I found it on toyota's main website. So i know it wasnt fake.

I never win anything. But was shocked that I got it. The one thing im a little worried about is that I used my name, but the car is in my Fiancee's name.

Im sure they will figure it out. I will get the $500 in her name then. But I used my new twitter acct.

I did it, link is straight off the buyatoyota.com site so I didn't see any greater risk in it then any other online Toyota stuff.

We'll see if it shows up now. :)
