Considering that the first 'humans' came from Africa, there just might be a grain or two of truth in that story. :)

Ah, but according to the Bridge City Mayor even the Losers get lucky sometimes.

Whatever political affiliations David Rose might have (doing some articles on torture does not automatically make you left leaning), this certainly is not the pinnacle article by Rose.

First, Rose just shoots himself in the foot with having such a sensational headline. In order for global warming to have suddenly halted in 2009 or 2010, you'd have to acknowledge that there was global warming (whether manmade or natural). His arguments get even more week when he does say that temperatures did go up in the 20th century. Lastly, is he expecting his title as "investigative reporter" will prevent people from doing any quick checks of his sources? The Met Office shows anything but a flat graph

The audience they are playing to tries to avoid being confused by facts.

Yep, but there is no god so I have nothing to worry about. :)
Hedging your bets to save yourself from hell when you die? I'll live a good life not hurting others and minimising my impact on the earth, that's how I'll hedge my bets. In actual fact I have invested a great deal into my son so I'd like to leave him a good planet to live on with his kids and theirs ...

^ Oh good Lord, Pat you just had to start this one up again...

But to make it perfectly clear, taking care of the Earth and believing in God are NOT mutually exclusive. In fact He tells us to do so.

The thing I find most interesting is that when someone from North America puts a case for anythig that is "global" they always or almost always only refer to places within North America.

So tell my GrumpyCabbie, were the thick smogs in London in the 1970s? man made or natural? If natural why don't they happen so much any more?

Get serious and admit churches are businesses and tax them like businesses, that would be a start.

Apologizing once again for deflecting this thread from religion, the Geological Society of London has now a position statement on climate change:

Geological Society - Climate change: evidence from the geological record

Actually it is dated last November but I just now 'got the memo'.

It is based on geological studies and not at all on radiative transfer models. It is not entirely cheerful, suggesting that if we continue the path of large-scale CO2 emissions (which have happened naturally in the Earth's history), the recovery time could be (as it was then) on the order of 100,000 years.
