So I took my Prius in for the 5K service at my local dealer which BTW I didn't buy from. I ripped off a maintenance coupon from the booklet and stuck it in my packet. The service adviser greeted me and asked what services would I require. I told him the 5K service. He took me to his office and typed up the service order. Total estimated cost is $0. Total estimated time is 1 hour. I went to the waiting room had a couple of free donuts and soda. After an hour the service adviser came into the waiting room and took me to the cashier then left. The cashier printed a final receipt and had me sign it. I was thinking, anytime she's gonna ask for the maintenance coupon. She then ask if my car was up front for pick up. I looked and told her no. She radioed for my car to be brought to the front. After which she handed me my receipt and told me that the valet should pull my car up shortly. As I was walking out to my car, I was thinking what the hell is this coupon good for if they're aren't going to take it. They'd just automatically zeroed out the service anyway. When you guys took your car in for the scheduled maintenance did the service dept ask for the prepaid coupon?
My dealer never does... It's hard to get an appointment too. At Dan Hect Toyota though, I have a $30 coupon though. Hope to use it soon.
No, they haven't been collecting the coupons because they are part of my electronic file. The service writer told me that they do that because most people misplace the coupons and/or forget to bring them in. Trust me they are keeping track of the mileage and how many times you have been in for service.
Are you talking about the free complimentary service (I've got a windshield sticker reminding of this) or a coupon from the 25,000 miles/2 years free maintenance coupon booklet?
Imagine this thread if the owner had gone for his free oil change and service, and was refused because he forgot the coupon! It seems like Toyota and the dealers have a good online system for administering this. If you have registered on the Toyota site, it's also current on service operations on your vehicle, including pre-delivery PDI and inspections.
Like the man (or lady) said... The service coupon book thingy is for tactile gratification. They're tracking the service performed on this vehicle. This is why I always advise people to get a potential used car inspected by a dealer before they pull the trigger on a sale...since somewhere in "Big Toyota" there's a record of ALL of yer little Prius' sojourns back to the dealership(s.) It sounds like Mama Yota kept up her end of the deal with the maintenance, and I hope that all of your service visits are for "maintenance". I usually do self-maintenance. OK...actually I ALWAYS do self maintenance, so I'm a statistical outlier to the "big brother" aspects of vehicle ownership...not that I have any heartburn with them tracking their cars in this way. This is not because I'm a great mechanic (believe me!), but I've found that I learn more about my car (motorcycle...lawn tractor...computer...etc) by getting a service manual, about 200 bucks in tools, and shoving some dirt under my fingernails. That's just how it works for me. Like I said... Best of luck!
I've visited over 20 dealers talked to 20+ salesmen/women and at least 5 service advisers regarding the 25k/2yr free maintenance when I bought my Prius and no one at any dealers ever mentioned that I don't need the maintenance coupons to get the maintenance done. I'm ranting because I drove 25 miles round trip just to get the maintenance coupon booklet that the dealer didn't even ask for.
they took my coupon, but then went on to explain, even though the coupon says "premium oil change" for the 5K, that Toyota only does it at 10K for the Prius. Then, I took the car back, as they didn't rotate the tires (car was filthy, and no signs of even one fingerprint on the dirty tires/wheels was a dead give a way), and another service guys says, sure they did, it shows they did the premium oil, filter, tire rotation right here on the computer. So I had them rotate the tires "again", after explaining how I knew it hadn't been done. This time, with hands, and fingers, smudges were apparent on all 4 wheels, hurray. Of course, had they thrown a car wash in I'd have never known. Had I had my brain engaged, I'd have checked the tire pressure, too, as I paid for a lifetime N2 fill (I know "sucker"), and the pressure was 30 psi when I checked it about 800 miles later. For the oil change and what they're charging Toyota for it, Hmmm. What's really going on here? I don't know. I don't wanna know. Everything it working on the car, 57 mpg, I'm happy with it, let's drive.
