My visor won't stay up....

Not that quick or cheap, but I just replaced mine with a new one from a dealer. It's really easy to do, two Phillips screws and one in-line connector tucked into the headliner. $80 and a two week wait to backorder the thing. Pay attention to the orientation of the original with respect to its base and you'll have no trouble. If you do order have the VIN handy so that they get the right color.

 

Can you figure out why it won't stay up?

If it's because the metal/plastic rod is slipping in the plastic clip, maybe if you wrap the part of the rod that goes in the clip with something that has some texture to it (e.g., gaffer tape, gauze, double sided tape, grippy neoprene or shelf liner, rubber bands), it won't slip down because of the added friction, tackiness and/or thickness.

 

On my 2007, I wouldn't have to try sticking velcro onto the fuzzy fabric of the headliner or the visor. Instead, I think I can stick it on flat plastic -- the plastic visor light cover in the headliner and the plastic mirror cover on the visor.

 

I'm having the same problem. I just emailed Steve at Autobeyours to see if they have a replacement visor. I've ordered replacement parts from them before and been really pleased, both with the condition of the item (an interior rear door panel to replace the one some wood punctured) and with the price. Way cheaper than ordering it new from the dealership!

 

Seek medical attention if your visor is up for longer than 4 hours. Do not use the visor if you are taking nitrates for chest pain or heart problems. Doing so may cause an unsafe drop of your visor.

The problem is a bit surprising. I've never seen this problem on any of the Japanese cars my parents and I have owned (Toyotas and Nissans) nor the one Dodge we had.

Sun visors not staying up or their internals becoming totally messed up was VERY common on the GM cars that we owned.

 

Our previous Nissan Altima had this problem. Had to tighten the screws every 6 months or so. FWIW I still want visor extenders.

 

I have the same problem. *REALLY* annoying but so far not bad enough to make me replace it. :-(

 

I had this problem with my old car... The dealership recommended it is probably cheaper to see if you can get one from the Junkyard too. Some cars get wrecked that would have the same parts.

 

I've been having this issue as well. I bought my '04 Prius in 2010 and immediately had to replace the saggy visors. The replacements I bought began drooping about six months later themselves, and now they just dangle around... they're practically useless. Both of them! Getting ready to buy yet another pair. I wondered if I was the only one...

 

You are not the only one! I'm afraid to get a new or junkyard replacement since I'm sure the color won't come close to matching. (maybe I'm being too pessimistic. It's not like it gets much handling so the surface shouldn't be too worn down or dirty. (like a lot of the well-maintained interior)

 

My genuine Toyota replacement for the driver's side matched perfectly and has held up for, how long has it been, three years now? Buy with confidence :_> I'll be replacing the passenger side before too much longer.

 

I could have written this post. I've been using velcro with varying degrees of success, but I'm getting sick of it. I see that the visor looks easy to screw on, and see them for sale on eBay for about $50. Any other sources?

Did you tighten the screws around the ball joint?

 

My wife came up with one.
Caveat emptor.

The little post/bar that fits into the clip attached to the ceiling? There's a gap between that bar and the body of teh visor making a little rectangular window.

My wife pushed the visor against the clip in the ceiling jamming the clip through that little window.
Works.
Works damn well.
It barely fits, though. Might break the clip or visor bar over time, but for now, it holds it tight.
You want it down? Pull it free and flip it down.
