There are many great quotes spewed out every day by someone somewhere like politicians, comedians, news anchors, sports and entertainment personalities, etc. Lets share what you heard or found here or make up your own. Here's the first one: "Isn't it great to live in a society where the penalty for lying to a congressman can be up to 30 years in jail, but the penalty for a congressman lying to you is another two years in office." from a Baltimore sports writer, concerning the indictment of Roger Clemens
''Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.'' —President George W. Bush
"The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything." -- Attributed to Joseph Stalin
"Foursquare and several beers ago, our fatheads brought froth upon this continent" -- Mad magazine's desecration roughly 45 years ago of Abe Lincoln's famous words.
"Time flies like an arrow, but fruit flies like a banana." - I have no idea where this came from. Tom
"Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read." - Groucho Marx. Tom
Yeah "Outside a dog..." is Twain. "Time flies like an arrow..." is unknown, but it's not Groucho Marx (source: Wikipedia - I won't link to it here because the board does weird things with Wikipedia links). Here's one that IS Groucho's: "I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book. "
The first six pages of Google shows it as as a Groucho quote. Wikipedia doesn't even show up in those six pages. Can you cite anything authoritative showing that it came from Twain? Tom
I agree, it doesn't sound like Twain but it does sound like Groucho. This is from a Twain quotation site that seems it would have this quote if it was Twain's - but it is not there --- Mark Twain quotations - Dogs The Wikipedia page with Twain quotes does not have this quote so what Wikipedia page does? Mark Twain - Wikiquote Finally, Groucho is credited for the quote virtually everywhere you look --- Groucho Marx Quotes While not absolute proof the evidence does seem to favor Groucho over Twain.
