Laws for maximum number of lamps

    In the fog light installation thread, there was some concern about the maximum number of lamps for the front of a car. Below is California's law. Thought others could post the law for other states. Or is this the law for all states?

    CAL. VEH. CODE § 24405 : California Code - Section 24405
    ​

    (a)Not more than four lamps of the following types showing to the front of a vehicle may be lighted at any one time:
    (1)Headlamps.
    (2)Auxiliary driving or passing lamps.
    (3)Fog lamps.
    (4)Warning lamps.
    (5)Spot lamps.
    (6)Gaseous discharge lamps specified in Section 25258.
    (b)For the purpose of this section each pair of a dual headlamp system shall be considered as one lamp.
    (c)Subdivision (a) does not apply to any authorized emergency vehicle.

    They either have to be counting 1 headlamp as all low beams or it is just not enforced...

    The Lexus LS600H (Sooooooo nice and comfy) has 6 low beams minimum at any given time...

    If this is the case, and the Gen 3 Prius V has 4 LED headlamps for low beams, how do you run fog lights with your low beams on a Prius V in CA? I'm assuming the dual headlamp system mentioned in 6(b) are dual filament bulbs where both are illuminated when the high-beams are on...

    Sorry, but I'm only representing the California legislature's position. I have no information on the judiciary's view. But it sure sounds like whatever amount of lamps are used for the low beams (or high beams for that matter) are considered one lamp (but of course, you have one on each side of the car which would then total 2). I just can't see a car company building a car that you can't drive in California at night.

    It sounds more like the olden days when quad headlights on cars were common and you would have 4 headlights on at once on high beam.
