hello, looking for input on the clear paint film, like 3m, to be installed on a 2010 Prius. I do not like the idea of a cloth bra for the scratches on the paint, but would like input on who has put it on and likes it.

Anyone recommend an installer in the chicago area or has anyone done it themselves?

    tks

I did it myself, wait with my wife. This was my 2nd time and looks OK. The first time (different car) looked bad. It takes some practice ans skills. The kit can be purchased cheap on ebay. I paid $37 shipped bumper and hood.

I have it on my V and I like it. I drive a ton of freeway miles and seem to get every rock and chipping device thrown at my car. I payed $600 to have it done and IMO it was worth it if its done correct you cant tell its on but if its not done correct it looks like Hell. I have a black car and that shows the most so I would say the darker your car the more the need to have it done correctly. The place I had my'n done at is called Premier Auto group. Check and see if the have a dealer in your aera. IMO its not about the material its who installs it is what makes the diff. BTW they did the door cups the Mirriors the hood almost 1/2 up. and the entire front bumper in 1 piece.
Some places have a 3 piece kit and the edges are where it shows the most. Hope that helps

The 1st trip the car made was across the state to get VentureShield film. Get the full hood, bumper, lights, mirror backs, front fenders, top of rear bumper, and door handle wells done.

Friendly Jack I would like to see some pic's of your DIY clear bra. The Prius is a curvy little car just wondering what kind of a job the average DIY could do a clear bra on a Prius. Not saying it cant be done but from what I know and have worked with its not the typical DIY job. Hell 1/2 of the stuff I see the pro's do is not to my standards but is way better than most people can do. Here is a pic of my'n

Its a computer kit. The head light washers are done by hand ect.

One last thing. Most shops will offer or Ask you to come back for a touch up. The edges somtimes lift up and sometime you might get a bubble so they ask you to come back a week later to have it looked at and any edges checked and they wax and seal it for you.

tks for the information. I will look into local dealers. I first wanted to do it myself, but like some one said above, the curvy bumper seems like a real challenge.

Both front bumper and partial hood. The seller said Prius installing difficulty is 3 of 4. I agree. Lots of patience and electric dryer to heat and stretch the film at curvy areas.

From your pics your install looks great. I'm a pretty handy guy and I wouldn't try it but it looks like yours came out just fine. I can see the hood comming out real good but the bumper looks real hard. Is your kit a 1 piece bumper or multi piece bumper? Never the less your install looks great good job

My installer took an entire day to do my V-AT. The washer covers pop off. Lots of time & patience will be needed. People who know what they are doing make it look easy.

There are separate pieces for hood, upper grill, bumper, lower grill, tips of fenders, and mirrors in the kit I purchased. I did not cover mirrors as it looked too difficult. I also screwed up the bumper sides and just cut the film at the edge of fog lamps. So, I have no bumper protection at the sides.

great information. had a local guy contact me last night who has done it for 7 years. I am gonna check out his set up. he quoted hood, fenders and mirrors for $200, the whole bumper is another 350. I will probably start with the $200 job and see how that looks and how good he is. I will post when its done.

+1 for the VentureShield! I saw my installer working on a new Corvette for a dealer and was amazed at the workmanship. Turns out he was the only installer in my state authorized by VentureShield. I've had the car for over a year now and its was expensive but worth it. I drive mostly freeway and have to deal with all kinds of road debris.

I had Andy from www.clearguardforcars.com in Hoffman estates do it, took him about 4 hours and covered the entire front end. he did a great job for $550. Glad i had it done because that front bumper sure looked very tricky. I would hate to buy the kit and mess it up trying to save some money. anyways part of the guarenty is the install so i left it up to a professional. I liked it so much that i plan to have my other toy worked on in the spring. In any case i would recommend it to protect the car if you plan on keeping it for a long time.
